Getting Organised for Your Summer Holiday

For families the summer is a great season. The fact that the days are longer and the sun is shining gives you the chance to enjoy more quality time together as a family. Better still, because the kids have at least a month off school you get the chance to book yourself a few days away.

Most families have a great time on their summer holidays, but getting ready for your break can be stressful to say the least. There is a lot to think about and get done. Unfortunately, it is all too easy to find yourself running around at the last minute trying to get everything ready on time. As a result, you often arrive at your holiday destination feeling like a frazzled wreck. Often, it takes a day or two before you can relax and start to enjoy yourself.

Start getting ready early

The trick to avoiding this situation is to get organised and get as much done in advance as possible. If you can, book your holiday at least a month in advance. This gives you enough time to get everything organised.

Before hitting the buy button check the date on everyone´s passport. Also, remember to check and factor in vaccination and visa requirements.

Make an activities list in advance

Once you know where you are going, sit down and make a list of any activities you plan to do as a family while you are there. Go online and look for deals that allow you to buy tickets in advance. This can enable you to avoid the queues, and can often mean that you will have to spend less on things like transport and entrance tickets.

Make a packing list

Now you know what activities you will be doing while you are away you can put together a comprehensive packing list. Go through each activity and think about the type of clothes everyone will need to wear. For example, if you are planning to go mountain biking, everyone will need a good pair of closed in shoes, whereas, if all you are planning is days spent on the beach you will easily be able to manage with just sandals.

Shop and pack in advance

Buying important items like swimwear, sun cream, sunglasses, hats, beachwear and sandals in advance is always a good idea. Shopping early allows you to shop around and find the best deals. It also gives you a chance to get ahead on your packing, which leaves you less to do later.

Make sure that everything is packed a day or two before you are due to travel. That way if you realise you have forgotten something important you have enough time to buy it.

Set off early

If you are catching a plane, train, coach or ferry to get you to your destination, leave home early. It is far better to arrive at the airport an hour early than it is to be sitting in traffic worrying if you are going to make your flight.

  1. Lists are my absolutely holiday planning essential! I couldn't cope without them. Holidays are awesome but getting ready for them can be stressful, but there are still worth it :)

  4. It makes so much sense to plan early. We get so many late orders from last minute travelers. Getting holiday organized is so much fun but as you said should not be left to the last.
