The Ordinary Moments #1 - Back To Normality

Amelia was back to school on Wednesday and I have to admit, I couldn't wait! As much as I have loved having her home for the three weeks I couldn't wait to get back to normality and have our routine back. There's something about starting a fresh new year that gets me all motivated and in the right frame of mind. Or at least for a few weeks anyway! We've had a lovely three weeks together at home over Christmas and the New Year, not having to get up early to do the school run, generally lazying around most days and not having to worry about work. I took a break from my blog last month, it wasn't intentional but it was nice, really nice!

In August I quit my part time job to work from home full time, and although I was already working on my blog full time it's great as I can now put my full effort into my blog again. I also get to do the school runs, go to the shops when I want, or can decide not to work one day and take the kids out instead. I love being able to have my own working hours and being my own boss. But I'll be honest, towards the end of last year I slacked and instead of using my child free time (which I never used to have before), I would use that time to go out and have some me time and see friends or, go shopping or get my hair and nails done. So this year I really want to have set working days and keep on top of my blog work. I've also really enjoyed writing more personal posts and joining in with linkies recently which you may have noticed over the past week and I haven't actually sat down to do any paid blog work this year yet!

Now that Amelia is back at school I want to get the work/home balance just right. This is harder now that Harry is older so I won't be working when he's home during the day apart from checking emails and social media. Instead I will do the majority of my work on my child free days and in the evenings again. I even moved my iMac downstairs so I can watch TV and blog as my laptop was too slow. I want to make the most of the weekends this year and get out and do things together as a family and as Harry is starting nursery in September I want to spend as much time with him as possible and make the most of the days we have together especially as he's growing so quickly!

I'm so glad to have some sort of normality resumed!

  1. As lovely as Christmas is, I completely agree. My son is so much better with a structured routine - and I needed to break the celebrations for breakfast habit! #theordinarymoments

  5. I couldn't wait to get our routine back after the holidays but it was such a shock to the system! Getting up for the school run - eugh! BUT, I'm looking forward to kicking off a new week and getting our routine properly back on track. I need to have the time to work too! x

  9. I have to admit I struggled over Christmas with a hyperactive 4yo 24x7 and was pleased for some normality to resume although I am already living for the weekends! #TheOrdinaryMoments

  10. I find when ever school is out, routine goes out the window completely! Although it's great to be back in routine I miss the time spent at home! I do admit I'm not a huge fan of lazy mornings/days as I'd rather keep active. x

  11. I too gave up my job to concentrate on my blog and find it so hard to do when the children are around so I am the same and trying to structure any child free time or evenings to do as much as I can and enjoy the weekends for family time x

  12. I was looking forward to getting back to routine too. I am struggling a little at the moment with W being so small, it is hard to work around him as his naps aren't consistent. I don't want to wish the time away till he is one and in nursery but I know it will be a lot easier then! xx
