Potty Training Essentials

Harry has been showing some signs of being ready to potty train for a couple of months now. He always tells us when he needs to go whether it be a wee or a number two and has done for a few months now, he also tries to pull his trousers down when he has. He's not dry at night time yet as he does still take a bottle to bed but I do notice on the nights where he doesn't have one he is a lot drier.

I always thought twenty months was a little too soon to be starting to think about potty training but when I was reading back through some posts I saw that we actually started trying Amelia at the same age even though she didn't get the hang of it until she was two and a half due to not wanting to sit on the potty and preferred the seat on the toilet instead which we eventually found out.

I recently bought some potty related themed books and other bits to get started and thought I'd share what we have been getting along with so here are our favourite essentials.

I'm not really a fan of all the gadget potties with the toilet roll holders, lids, or ones which flush and prefer the back to basic type ones. We just have a potty from Ikea and I also recently bought the superhero one so I had a spare. We used a Bumbo training seat with Amelia so I thought we'd buy one for Harry too for when he gets a bit bigger. We also have a travel potty which is extremely handy to have in the back of the car or to put under the pushchair when out during the day, we haven't yet used this as I just put him in pull up when we're out and about.

  2. I was gifted an intelligence potty which allows us to record our voices so when our son uses the potty he is our familiar voices! Haven't tried it yet, my son is only 9 months! Ha!

  3. It is best to start when they show signs of being ready like your boy makes it much easier and quicker than starting to early, try not to get too disappointed with accidents my son use to forget to ask if he was engrossed in a toy but like all children he got there in the end

  4. Very early signs. But Harry is a super child in general since birth. We had a normal potty, lots and lots of pants, a toilet seat, a step, a sticker reward book, buttons as a reward and the book about potty training. We never bothered with pull ups because it seems misleading.
