Not long ago I bought a new dining table and moved it in the living room. We have a pretty spacious living room as it is so I thought we may as well make most of the space leaving the kitchen with more room as there wasn't much space in the first place due to having my treadmill and cross trainer in there. As much as I like having the dining table in the living room it's not really practical with kids as they like to climb on the furniture and I also need some more storage for toys so I have decided to move it back into the kitchen. This week I have bought a bigger dining table and will be buying a couple more Eames chairs to go around the table and can't wait to get started on our dining area in the kitchen. My first task is to paint the walls
I have so many of the Ikea Kallax units scattered around the house and need more storage solutions in the kitchen so I thought the Kallax unit would be great for storing shoes and other random bits which I can never find a home for! I will be getting rid of our corona dresser which has ended up in the kitchen since our living room makeover and I've just never got round to getting rid of it. I'm debating whether or not to sell the cross trainer as it does take up a huge amount of space and just keep my treadmill as its a foldable one it stands in the corner.
I wish I had more storage space in the kitchen such as an under stairs cupboard to put away all of the utility stuff such as the iron board, clothes horse, hoovers and laundry basket as they make the kitchen look cluttered! I must say I do miss not having a cupboard under the stairs like we did in our old house.
As we have a white dining table, I must admit it's rather hard to keep white especially with kids so I have been looking at buying an oil cloth which will keep the table clean from food stains as well as when we do any crafts. I have found a few with some nice patterns from I Want Fabric but I think I'll wait until everything is built to decide which colour to go for.
For decorative bits I've decided to buy another house plant, I have many of these from B&Q around the house and think they make it look more homely. I have started buying some prints for the wall as I'd like to have a few prints above the dining table, although I cant decide which ones to put in the living room and which ones to keep in the kitchen.
So those are my plans for the dining area. I hope it all makes sense, it's kind of a rambling post to jot down my ideas but I always find these types of posts helpful when it comes to decorating my own house.
