Home Decor Plans For 2016

As we begin a new year I have many plans for the home and would like to get it completely finished by the end of the year. Since moving in I have done quite a bit of decorating, more so over the past year when I finally took the plunge to re-decorate the living room, main bedroom and both of the kids room which are yet to be completed. Below are some of my home decor plans which I would like to complete this year.

Living Room

The living room is pretty much finished apart from a few decorative items here and there, and I would also like to purchase a corner sofa but just can't seem to find the right one! I am also in need of buying another ikea storage unit for all of the toys to go under the stairs which is sat waiting in my Ikea basket until I have a few other items in there to pay for the £35 postage.

Main Bedroom

I made a start on the bedroom earlier this year when I created a little blogging space for myself in one of the corners. I really love this space and it's allowed me to become more productive and work from home. I have painted the room white however still need to buy a new wardrobe and some more storage. I would love a built in sliding wardrobe or to create a walk in wardrobe however with limited space it's not possible. I am tempted to ask the landlord if I can get some sliding wardrobes put in and I'd pay for them of course, so we'll see. I have been looking at buying all of the parts and could buy the majority of them from Barrier Components and hire someone to fit them for me. I'm also debating whether or not to buy some new bedside tables and a new bed as mine is a king size, I'm thinking of downgrading to a double seeing as we no longer co-sleep and could do with the extra space as it's a pretty odd shaped room.

Kids Rooms

I have painted both of the kids rooms white earlier in the year and bought some Ikea Kallax units for toy storage however I still need to finish off both of their rooms. I have bought many accessories, bedding and decorative bits but it's yet to be completed so I would really like to do so this year.

Kitchen

As we rent there's not really a lot that we can do to the kitchen unfortunately. If it was my own house the kitchen would be completely re-done to my taste! I cannot wait to own my own home some day. But for now I will touch it up with a lick of paint and I have been looking at maybe buying vinyl for the counter tops and cupboards to transform it as well as putting down some lino flooring on top of the tiles.

I also need some sort of shoe storage as currently I have two large wicker baskets full of them in the kitchen which are getting in the way. I've seen a shoe cabinet in Argos so think I'll buy that for the porch. I would also like to buy a garden shed as at the moment Amelia's bike, scooter, trike and everything else is all stored in our kitchen as it no longer has a dining table in there. I do have a small wooden storage unit but it's not really big enough to keep anything other than paint and the lawnmower.

Do you have any plans for decorating this year?

  1. I love reading your home decor posts Kerry, your interior style is gorgeous. I love your living room. We are getting an extension as we speak, just so we have a dining table and some more child storage- I am so excited! x

  2. Oh I have a lot of plans for decorating this year! We bought an apartment last year and we renovated it almost completely ourselves, trying to stay as low-budget as possible. All of the basics of the rooms are now almost finished (ceiling, painting, flooring, ...) so now I can get started with decorating the place. It's going to be so exiting, I have so many ideas it will be bad for our bank account haha. Currently we're hunting for a recycled teak table to give the living room some rustic character! :)

    Hope your decorating goes well!

    love,

  3. I love your home decor posts! This year I'm hoping to buy a new shoe cabinet, as we currently have a rack that looks a right mess (and I would move this upstairs into a cupboard), and I also need to get a rug and a lamp for my sons bedroom. And just some little accessories for around the home.

  4. Love all your plans for the house. I have been making redecorating plans myself. Now that our spare room is done. We are working on the back room that is a dumping ground at the minute and MM is in need of a big girl bedroom and not an nursery anymore. I have long kept her little as much as possible but she is working on being 2 1/2 years old now eeeek I can't believe it. Love your home space and interior you decorate so lovely. I need inspiration for sure.

  5. Considering you're a bit restricted, you've really managed to put your stamp on the place. Your landlord should give you a discount for how pretty you've made it! I can't wait to finish the inside of our house this year. It's driving me crazy!!!! x
