Healthy Eating, Meal Planning and Getting in Shape!

This year one of my new year goals is to start eating healthy and get back into shape! I have attempted to do this many times over the past few years but always give up as I loose interest however this time I am determined to stick to it and see some results! Last week I booked a holiday to the Caribbean in November so that gives me about 10 months to get into shape! There are a number of things I will be implementing to do this which I will share below.

Eat healthier

My main problem is down to junk food and takeaways, I just can't resist them. I would be spending £100 a week on takeaways which is just ridiculous and needs to stop which is why I have decided to cut it down. I have limited myself to one takeaway a week and I will try to go longer without having any but I don't think one a week as a treat is that bad...it's definitely better than three!

I recently bought the Lean in 15 cookbook by The Body Coach which I had been seeing a lot of recipes for on Instagram so bit the bullet and decided to buy it. I skimmed through it the other day and there are many recipes which I really like the look of so can't wait to try them! I cooked a Chick and potato hash last night which was delicious so I'll definitely be trying that again! The great thing about these recipes is the fact that they are really quick to make which is great for busy mums! The book is only £6.99 which is a bargain too! I'd also recommend following the #Leanin15 hashtag on Instagram for lots of inspiration!

I'll also be using my Nutribullet which hasn't been out of the cupboard in nearly a year to make smoothies and soups which I can also share with Amelia.

Drink more water

My go to drink is Dr Pepper, in fact it's the only thing I'll drink throughout the day which isn't exactly healthy. I have tried to cut down in past and only have one can a day but I would always cave in and end up drinking 2-4 cans. I'm trying to cut down to one can a day again and drink water the rest of the day instead. I never drink water so this is a challenge in itself, but I have been filling up bottles in the fridge as I can only drink it straight from the fridge and I'm hoping to keep it up and see some results.

Meal plan

One thing I really want to start doing again is meal planning. I really enjoyed doing it last year but gave up and started eating unhealthy again and didn't really have an idea of what I would eat each week. By meal planning I can keep down the costs of the food shop as I won't be buying rubbish and buying stuff I'll only end up throwing in the bin as I usually have a lot of waste. I'm hoping by meal planning again it will not only help me eat healthier and cut down on the takeaways but also save me more money in the long run. You can print off my weekly food planner here if you're wanting to get into meal planning too.

Getting back in shape

As a single mum of two I can't go to the gym as I never have time to myself so I will bring the gym to me! I do have a cross trainer and fold away treadmill which are collecting dust in the kitchen so I will start using them again. Before having the kids I always had a washboard stomach, even after having Amelia I did get back into shape right away but still had a mum tum and the same since having Harry. I can just never get rid of my belly even though I haven't put on weight.

I have bought a couple of workout DVDs and will be doing Blogilates on Youtube which I have enjoyed doing in the past, so hopefully I can get rid of it that way. I don't need to loose weight, but I do need to tone up especially if I want to be in a bikini on holiday. I spent hundreds on workout gear last year when I went through a "lets get fit" stage and shortly gave up so I'm looking forward to wearing those. I'm also wanting to buy a new pair of Nike Roshe runs as I've had my eyes on this pair for ages! I've also started using my Fitbit activity tracker again which is helping me keep track of my fitness.

  2. I really think I'm going to have to buy that book. Am getting a bit bored of cooking the same things every week! I find it so hard to think of new meals!

  4. Hi there, as a fellow takeaway and fast food fan can I suggest you take a look at slimming world. Not a diet, very cheap to do, uses all your fave foods and ingredients that you have at home, no special purchases, and you can even indulge in 'fakeaways!' - lose an average of 2.5 lbs a weeks while eating all your fave foods. They have sample menus on their website to check out, and I recommend it to everyone who wants to lose a little or a lot! Good luck with your journey x
