You may have noticed I have recently been doing a spot of decorating around the house. I have started on the kids rooms, and my bedroom with my new blogging space however the living room was one room which I hadn't touched. I had so many ideas for the living room but didn't really know where to start so one day I literally just sat down and bought everything online. Whilst I was waiting for it all to arrive I slowly started to get rid of old furniture, any unwanted items and also had a big clear out.
Incase you were wondering this is what the living room used to look like when we first moved in and this is what it looked liked more recently. Whilst I did like it and the corona furniture, it wasn't me and my tastes have changed since we moved into this property two years ago. I thought it was about time I started making this house a home and add a few personal touches to it even though we're not able to do much as it is a rented property. I will list all the items I bought at the end incase you were wondering where anything was from. I didn't have a budget in mind, however I did spend slightly more than I initially wanted to so new sofas will have to wait!
I've been loving monochrome and Scandinavian decor for the past year or so now and have been lusting over home interior images on Instagram and Pinterest. When I thought about decorating the house I just knew I had to incorporate these trends into the rooms. I first got to work last week by painting the walls, skirting boards, doors and the banister although there are still some bits I need to go over. My main aim was to make the living room as bright and airy as possible. The living room tends to be darker in the mornings and lighter in the afternoons if the sun is shining so I wanted it to be brighter throughout the day. The living room isn't complete as I still want to add a picture ledge and lots of print along one wall so I won't show you that corner just yet, but I'll show you what I've done so far.
My Ikea delivery arrived on Tuesday and this was the delivery I was looking forward to the most as it had the majority of the items and everything else arrived over the last few days. Previously our dining table was in the kitchen however I decided to buy a smaller one instead and put it in the living room. I really like this corner of the room and this it's my favourite part. I bought a couple of Eames chairs to go with the table as I wanted to create a Scandinavian feel to the corner. I knew when I was planning the living room that I wanted this print on the wall somewhere. I'd seen it on many Instagram accounts and fell in love with it!
Here is the other side of the living room, I'm not overly keen on this area. I'm not sure why but it isn't what I had hoped for. I guess over time it will grow on me, so I will keep it as it is for now. I haven't really done much to this area except from get rid of the old TV unit and bought a few plants, a new rug, new curtains, TV unit and coffee table. It does look much brighter than before but I feel like theres something missing and it doesn't really go with the other half of the room.
I'm loving these little succulent plants at the moment and can't wait to put them up on an Ikea picture ledge along with some prints soon.
