MAKING A HOUSE A HOME

If you follow me on Instagram you're probably already sick of my recent home decor spam, but there's nothing more satisfying than completing a project and wanting to show it off as many of us bloggers will know!

My taste has changed over the years, a few years back it was all about the shabby chic but more recently I'm lusting over monochrome and scandinavian decor on Instagram! I can literally spend hours in the evening scrolling through Instagram, getting drawn into a random feed then finding a hashtag which then takes me to a thousand more images. My dream home would be completely white with a pop of black accents here and there with lots of greenery, a huge kitchen with an island in the middle and a huge garden. Maybe some day!

For the longest time I have wanted to re-decorate the whole house so a couple of weeks ago I decided to get started and got to work on the kids rooms and then my bedroom. I needed to paint the walls in Amelia's and the main bedroom so I got to work with that whist waiting on furniture and accessories to arrive. I spent hours browsing websites online which I had come across on Instagram for accessories and interiors for the kids rooms and ended up spending a fortune but it was definitely worth it!

The last room of the house which has been left untouched since we moved in is the kitchen. As we rent there's not a lot we can do to it sadly apart from re-paint. I'd love to completely get rid of the cupboards and get it re-done to my own taste. One day when I can finally afford to buy a home of our own and have a mortgage I can do what I like to it, but for now I guess I have to put up with it. I was looking at the TSB mortgage calculator and could easily afford to pay off a mortgage each month but I just don't have the savings for a deposit which is a real shame! It's so hard to get onto the property ladder these days.

I will be posting individual room tours of each room on the blog over the next few weeks as I am still waiting on a few finishing touches to arrive and I still need to decide on what to do above the bed. But here are some photos of how it's looking right now, don't mind the awful quality as they were taken on my phone. I'm quite pleased with it so far, as it's looking much fresher and brighter than it did before.

What do you think of what I've done so far? Have you got your forever home or are you still looking?

    1. Awww thanks Gemma, it's because they've been stretched to fit the layout they've lost their quality. We're in a rented house too and all our walls were magnolia so decided to paint them white they can't complain about that hehe! xx

  12. Lovely home style Kerry, you've done much more in your house than we have done in our house which we own! We never seem to get around to doing anything decor wise, and if we do we never seem to finish it! I have a list as long as my arm of things I'd like to do in the house, but it's time, energy and money. Love Amelia's bed- can I ask where it's from as we are looking for a toddler bed for Freddie. Is the rail part of the bed or did you attach that separately? xx

    1. Thank you Amelia. There's just never enough hours in the day is there.

Of course, its from eBay but does have a heart cut out in the top. I think I found it by searching white wooden toddler bed ( it's a couple of years old so may not be on there any more) the rail is a bed guard by Babydan you can find that on amazon :) xx
