LIVING ROOM MAKEOVER INSPIRATION

Black and white living room

As you can most probably tell from a few of my most recent posts I am in the process of re-decorating our home. Ever since we moved in two years ago we haven't really done much to it at all apart from the kids room so I have recently been decorating the main bedroom, and the kids rooms and my next project in the living room.

I believe a living room should feel homely and have character however at the moment I don't feel like ours does. I do love the country feel to it with the corona furniture but I think it's time for a change. I have a few ideas in mind on what I am hoping to achieve so hopefully I can create the perfect living room for us! With young children I need to keep it practical yet looking modern and fresh too. So firstly I'll be giving the walls a splash of new paint as I'd love to brighten them up a bit. I'm thinking of a scandi/monochrome theme with a bit of green thrown in there with some house plants.

I have been looking at purchasing a couple of new sofas as our black leather ones are looking a bit worse for wear especially after Amelia's grubby hands have been all over them! I would love a white or cream sofa but of course with young children I know that would be a silly idea so I'm thinking perhaps grey instead! The sofa should be a place where everyone comes together as a family to watch TV, and chit chat however at the moment they don't really get used that often as they're not that comfy!

I've also been looking at new Living room furniture as ours is a few years old and they are starting to loose their colour also Amelia's drawn all over the TV stand. I want something that is easy to clean and won't become full of crumbs from Amelia's toast! I would really like to create a photo wall and have a few prints in mind to add along with some family photos to make it feel homely. I also have my eye on some more black and white cushions to add to my collection and I'm also looking to change Amelia's toy storage to the Kallax units as they are bigger than the ones we currently use.

I just feel like the living room is the odd room out of the rest of the house (apart from the kitchen) everywhere else is looking more modern and fresh yet the living room feels outdated and boring. I will be starting on the living room over the next few months (once I save up again as I've cleared out my savings to do up the rest of the house) and can't wait to show you the results!

What do you think of my plans? What type of decor do you have in your living room, do you have a specific theme going on?

  3. It would be very brave to go for a white sofa!! I have the exact same lamp though and I love it! I have a black and white theme in my front room (although a bit muted down) and I think it is a great look x

  4. My friend has this coffee table and its perfection to put books in, I have thought about getting it but not sure how child friendly it is with the glass top :(

  5. Since we're trying to prepare for the baby, we've changed up some of the furniture (mainly downsizing things). We got the Billy bookcase with the glass doors (I can't bare the thought of my books being ripped apart!) and I LOVE it xo
