10 THINGS TO DO BEFORE THE KIDS GO BACK TO SCHOOL

With just one week to go until Amelia goes back to school and the weather not being too great here in North Wales, I've been trying to keep Amelia entertained in the house. I know a lot of you still have a couple more weeks left until your kids go back so I've put together a list of my favourite things to do over the summer holidays just incase you've ran out of ideas of things to do!

If you're looking for more activities to do this summer check out the Mamas and Papas #ShareOurSummer calendar which is packed with lots of great ideas for children of all ages!

Check if you can visit your local fire station

Many fire stations love having children in over the summer and will happily show them around the station and let them sit in the fire engines. Not all stations will do this though so it's best to check before you just turn up.

Go to the zoo

Haven't been to the zoo yet this summer? What are you waiting for? Get in the car and head to your nearest zoo for a fun family day out looking at animals and spending quality time together. Take a picnic to save some money which you could then put towards an ice-cream at the end of the day.

Build a den

Depending on the weather this can be indoors or out in the garden. Let your child be creative and gather objects around the house to build their den, this will hopefully keep them quiet long enough for you to sneakily eat a few biscuits when they're not looking. Get out the fairy lights and turn the den into a special cave then prepare a mini picnic and have fun watching them play in their new den.

Let them help in the garden

Give them their own little plot in the garden (which you don't mind getting dug up) and let them get to work! Depending on their age you may need to help them, if they are older perhaps if they have siblings set them a little competition to see who creates the best looking plot.

Make a car park on the floor

Using masking tape or washi tape create a race track or car park on the floor for your child to play with their cars. It will last a while so there's no need to keep re-making it every day. You could even make one outside with chalk and also draw and use clothes to create people.

Sort out old toys for charity

Give them a bin bag and ask them to sort through their toys and select which ones they want to give to other children to play with. Not only does this save you a job but it also makes them aware of giving to others in need.

Get imaginative

There are plenty of ways to let your kids pretty little heads get imaginative. One of my personal favourites is to paint a wall in the home with black board paint so they can creative and draw away. Simply wipe clean and they can start again! If you're unable to paint a wall in the house what about making chalkboard wall in the garden for them scribble away on, the fresh air will also do them good!

Host a sports day

Gather some of your kids school friends round for a morning or afternoon of fun and games. Head to the local pound shop or supermarket to stock up on activities and snacks and the kids will have hours of fun!

10 things to do before your kids go back to school

Get crafty indoors

Ran out of ideas to keep the kids quiet indoors? Get out the craft box and see what creations they can come up with. There are 1000's of craft ideas on Pinterest you could print off a few and do a couple a week. Some of our favourites are making our own play-doh, making animals out of used toilet rolls and making our own crayons.

Challenge them to wash the car

Is the car looking a little unloved? To save yourself a few quid on the car wash or a valet if the kids are complaining they're bored why not get them to wash the car for you.  Plus it saves you having to wash it yourself.

What have you been enjoying doing this summer?

  24. The zoo has been the top of my to do list, but only if the husband was free to come. Every day he's been off the weather has been awful. Bloody typical but it's great to get some new ideas for rainy day home activities!!!

  25. There are some great ideas here Kerry. I'll actually be able to do more with my youngest once my eldest goes back to school as there's a 9 year age gap between them and it's hard to keep them both occupied with the same activity. That said, they've been building dens together this last few days and that's kept them quiet for hours!!
