MY HEALTH & FITNESS MISSION - THE BEGINNING

I always seem to be on a mission to get fit/healthy a couple of times a year and then give up in a matter of days or weeks! I even wrote this post just two months ago as I had planned on getting fit again but I quickly gave up. However this time I am serious! I saw myself in the mirror a couple of days ago and was shocked! It wasn't me! I have put weight on my thighs, I have NEVER put weight on there and when I put on a pair of my favourite shorts the other day when I went to the beach they no longer fit and were far too snug with flesh hanging over the sides!! Even just by looking at the photos in that post just under two months ago I can see I've put weight on. I've put on a stone since giving birth to Harry which may not sound like a lot but I am at the heaviest I've ever been. I'm actually ashamed to even post these photos as I can't believe I've let myself get that way.

I don't know what it was but something flicked a button in my head and I have been eating healthy ever since. No more Macdonalds 3 times a week or takeaways twice a week! I've cut them out completely! No eating two packets of crisps a day or a whole bag of magic stars before bed. I've even cut down on the Dr Pepper too as that definitely wouldn't be helping with the bloat. My diet has been appalling and I feel ashamed that I've let it get that bad.

I know I've had two children but I've always bounced right back into shape after having them both. I even weighed less after giving birth to Harry than I did pre-pregnancy. But somewhere along the way since January I've pilled on the pounds by eating what I pleased and not giving a care in the world. I don't exercise, unless you call running up and down the stairs after Amelia exercise but that's basically all I do! I drive everywhere, and I mean literally everywhere even to take Amelia to nursery which is a five minute drive away so I think I'll start walking if the weather is nicer instead. I'm planning on buying a treadmill as I don't really use the cross trainer and I'd really love to take up running but with two kids thats impossible! So at least this way I can get it out at night or when Harry is napping.

It's such a shame really, because I wanted to be able to walk around this summer in clothes I felt comfortable in or a bikini if we were at the beach but I've been covering my body up, nothing looks good on me anymore and I wear baggy tops to cover my belly. Looking at me with baggy clothes on you probably wouldn't think I had gained weight as I have always been a pretty slim person, I have thin arms and legs and only seem to put weight on my belly. A lot of people have said I don't need to loose weight but that's because they haven't seen my stomach in the flesh, they don't see what I am hiding, how unconfident I am right now, which is why enough is enough! I will stick to it this time and hopefully see some progress!

Which is the reason why I'm documenting it on here because that's the only way I'll stay motivated! I'll share an update every month or so. My first goal is to be able to wear a bikini when we go to Bluestone in September and feel comfortable. I need to loose the flab and get rid of the love handles, then I will work on toning up. I also have a Instagram account @thehealthiermama if you wanted to follow me on there for meal inspiration and to see my progress.

Starting weight: 8st 5lb
Usual weight: 7st 7lb
Goal weight: 7st 10lb

I only started eating healthier these past couple of days and haven't eaten a packet or crisps or any chocolate in two whole days! That is such an achievement for me! I've decided to cut out the junk food i.e Macdonalds, takeaways as well as pop! I haven't done any exercise yet but I thought I'd start by sorting out my diet first which should shed a few pounds. My treadmill is arriving tomorrow so I can start to loose some of the fat around my stomach and then start working out properly. As a single mum of two I don't have the time to go to the gym so I'm having to make the most of working out at home.

Are you currently on a health/fitness kick? I'd love to know!

  1. How funny that I posted the same sort of thing today. I'll be watching your progress - I'm sure you'll do great, you usually do when you put your mind to anything. Tbh, it's not surprising that you have turned to food over the last few months with all that's been going on for you. Onwards and upwards! You look fine to me but I know that it's how you feel about yourself that's the main thing. I hope you get back to being you in not much time at all x

    1. Hi Donna, Oooh really? I'll have to take a read and follow your progress too! You're right I think that didn't help at all and I just comfort ate for the last few months. I'm more determined now than ever though, and really want to stick at it. That's the thing, not everybody sees insecurities in others but there are there and sometimes just small changes can help you feel more confident :) xx

  2. You've inspired me to get my butt in gear. After having my son in January, I'm definitely my heaviest I've ever been. It's been extremely depressing. I don't fit in any of my clothes and have had to buy shirts the next size up, and they still don't fit the way i want them to. I'll follow along in your journey and your instagram, and hopefully that will be enough to motivate me to get my rear in gear! Good luck to you mama.

    1. Glad to have inspired you :) I've been following a few accounts on IG and was suddenly inspired to get started. That's exactly how I feel, it's horrible when nothing fits isn't it. I found a pair of shorts the other day that fit my great around 2 years ago so that my motivation so I don't have love handles out of them, do you have anything you used to like wearing that fit maybe focus on that? :) Thank you and you too, I'll keep an eye out to see if you're sharing your progress too xx

  3. Can I just say that first off you look fantastic, I would love to have your body but I fully understand not being happy/comfortable in your own skin. Good on you for finding the motivation and making healthy changes. I too workout at home, I've been on a healthy kick since January and still trying. My advice would be not to fully cut out the junk, I find I only crave it more and then end up binging on it. I generally stick to an 80/20 rule of healthy vs junk. best of luck lovely xx

  7. You've inspired me I haven't lost or gained weight since having Blake but my diet isn't healthy what so ever. I think the reason I haven't gained is because I walk everywhere but I do want to loose the baby weight and be healthy and feel as good as I did when I lost 6 stone before having Blake.http://www.joannavictoria.co.uk

    1. Getting a healthy diet is definitely a start to being healthy and fit :) Thats great that you walk everywhere though, so you at least have a basic level of fitness to get started :) Thats amazing that you lost 6 stone though! xx

  8. Good luck my lovely, I did so well with my fitness mission last year but it's all gone a bit wrong this year. I lost a bit too much weight so I needed to put more on, but I need to get back to being fit and toned! x

    1. Thanks Katie! You did amazingly well! I loved following your journey, you inspired me so many times to start but i gave up so quickly haha! I've heard that running can make some loose too much weight i'm not sure if thats true though? You definitely look fit and toned already though :) xx

  9. Good luck! I personally think you look really good, but it sounds like you are also doing it to make you more healthy which is definitely a good thing. Hopefully you'll get a big energy boost with it too! Walking more places will definitely make a difference - some days that's all I can manage but it gets the HR up and works the legs and glutes!

My daughter (first child) is 5 months old and I am trying to get fit again after years competitive amateur rowing. It's a real shock having my fitness and strength so low after all these years. It's also really tough juggling it with childcare. I post my updates on my blog too if you ever have time to read :)

Look forward to hearing your progress in a month!

    1. Thank you Angela. Thats the main reason to be honest and tone up. I'm so unfit, I have no strength at all so it will definitely be good for that.

Wow rowing that's impressive and definitely a good workout!

I'd love to read your updates! Will have a browse tomorrow :)

      Thank you! x

  10. I'll definitely be following this. I had my little girl 19 weeks ago and I did really well at first with getting back into shape as I gained a LOT of weight, especially as it was Christmas and I was pregnant, I binged like crazy! I've managed to lose a stone in that time but I'm struggling to lose more and I've got 2 more stone to lose until I'm back to my pre birth weight. I really need some motivation and some meal ideas so I've just followed your Instagram too! xx

    1. Hi Penny, haha I was exactly the same at Christmas. I used it as an excuse to eat anything being pregnant which didn't help. Thats amazing that you'll lost a stone well done! Have you tried any fitness programes or dvds? They can sometimes help I believe to toning up more and fat burning. I'm just starting the kayla itsnies bikini guide which looks really good! I've done a few of the blogilates work outs in the past too which are fun if you haven't heard of those?

I find IG really good for motivation and inspiration, im on it all day atm haha! Thanks for following, im pretty sure i followed you back earlier :) xx

  11. I'm in the same boat right now, Kerry. I'm so uncomfortable with how I look & feel that something's gotta change. I'm trying to get back into running & alter my diet to be less chocolate & rubbish lunches, to more fruit & smaller portions. You're braver than me posting photos on your blog though!

And I'm quite jealous of your treadmill - I really wish we had the space! xo

    1. Hey Amy! I think thats the worst part isn't it, feeling uncomfortable in your own body and knowing you need to change. It's just getting the motivation to start. Smaller portions is definitely something i need to work on too and getting rid of the junk food. Haha, I was in two minds whether or not to, but then I thought, it would motivate me more to have a progress photo! It's a fold up treadmill so doesn't take up room at all :) xx

  12. Hi there. Love your blog....stumbled it upon it in my efforts to start a similar one. Recently had a little boy and want to track his first few months virtually! So you've inspired me....both to write but also to get moving with my new health and fitness plan. My diet has gone to pot with the enormous change in routine that has ensued following the birth of my little boy (7 weeks old now). You look fabulous as it is but I completely understand wanting to feel better. There is a big difference between how we look versus how we feel......so here's to feeling great! All the best, Rebecca
