FAMILY WALKS, ICE CREAMS & BBQ'S!

After the most depressing weather recently, today saw a whole day of sunshine! Yes I couldn't believe it either! We've not been too lucky this year with what seems like rain day after day, but I'm hoping its here to stay. As the day started off sunny I decided to take the kids out for a walk in the afternoon and I find that Amelia has less tantrums if we are out and about so that is always a bonus. I popped to the supermarket in the morning to pick up some meat for a BBQ for dinner after lunch we set off in the car to a local forest which has a beach adjacent to it which is very handy especially for when Amelia's had enough of wandering through the forest.

I hadn't expected it to be as busy as it was which was silly of me really as it was the hottest of days we've had all year plus it was a Sunday. Although I never used to really go anywhere at the weekend so that may be why! When we arrived and after I had strapped Harry into the baby carrier off we went into the forest once we had decided which route to take as such a large forest. We then walked back to the car park and I treated Amelia and I to some ice-creams before heading down to the beach for a wander. It was scorching! Of course she didn't want to leave when the time came however after a huge meltdown I eventually managed to persuade her back to the car with a promise of a kinder egg when she got home ha ha!

It's a shame I didn't pack my big camera as the were some great views to be had, my iPhone photo's don't really do it any justice! Here are some more photo's from our day out.

Once home I got out the BBQ and set it up. I've been wanting to have a BBQ for the longest time, basically the whole of last month however the day I do decide to go and have one it usually ends up chucking it down! So I was glad that the sun had stayed out! Cooking for one isn't exactly the most exciting of things to do especially as Amelia is such a fussy eater and won't eat any of the meat but it was still nice for us to dine alfresco early evening.

More Than have recently launched their Fire Safety campaign including a powerful video which highlights how to prevent a fire in your home.

Here are some of my tips on how to prevent a fire:

Turn it off! - I'm pretty good at turning appliances off when not in use as I like to think I'm saving on electricity. However there are nights where I forget to switch the laptop charger off and often wonder if it would set alight. Mobile chargers are known for blowing up unexpectedly and it has happened to myself in the night too so now make sure I only charge them during the day time and that they are turned off at the wall before I go to sleep

Keep mirrors away from the window - Don't leave mirrors near the window, the sun will reflect off it and may set alight. There have been many unfortunate incidents recently of house fires because of the reflection setting items alight in the house.

Blow it out - I love to burn a good candle every once in a while, but how easy is it to forget about it and let it burn all night? This is an easy fire starter especially if it comes into contacts with anything nearby. Don't forget to blow it out before you go out or go to bed.

Check your smoke alarms regularly - It's a good idea to check your smoke alarms every month to ensure that they are working or if the batteries need replacing.

Don't leave the kitchen unattended - Never leave your hob unattended if you are using it, it's so easy for it to set alight especially if you forget about it.

Do you have any other tips to add to the list?
