TRAVEL BUCKET LIST WITH THE KIDS

I've always loved travelling and have been lucky enough to do so from an early age. Prior to having the kids I would holiday quite often, Caribbean, all-inclusive...the lot. Amelia has been on five family holidays since she was born but we haven't been anywhere for the past year since we went to Bluestone last June. I miss that exciting feeling you get when you have a holiday to look forward to and also regret not going anywhere this past year but sometimes other things have to come first. I want the kids to grow up and be well travelled, to have ticked off many places across the globe and enjoy family holidays, and if that means me taking them abroad on my own then so be it. It's either that or miss out on holidays which I really don't want to do.

I want to make some memories with the kids and also be able to cherish the memories. Taking road trips across the UK, beach holidays abroad and all inclusive resorts. I don't see why they should miss out because someone couldn't be bothered to go away or plan a holiday!

I thought I'd take small steps first and book a few days away somewhere in the UK so here are some of the options I have been contemplating. I may even do all 5 over the following year before heading abroad at least that way I'll have some experience of going away with both of them on my own so it won't be so bad. It's just the plane I'm dreading with the both of them, I'm pretty content that we'll be fine once we're there but not having an extra pair of hands to help look after one of the kids is slightly daunting. It was hard enough travelling abroad with a toddler with her dad so I can't imagine what it will be like with a three year old and a baby! So I think I will wait until Amelia is at least four before going abroad, that way she will hopefully be a little easier to control seeing as she's such an independent little live wire!

Here's our travel bucket list:

Peppa Pig World - Paultons Park, New forest
Duration 2-3 days

Since Amelia's recent obsession with Peppa Pig, I have been wanting to take her to Peppa Pig World as I know she will just love it! There's actually an option to book a short 2 day break through the website which is exactly what I'm wanting to do seeing as we live around 5 hours away it would be pointless to drive down for just the one day. They currently have an offer for a second day free at the park which is great!

Duration 2-3 days

Ever since I stumbled across Humble Bee Farm last year I have wanted to book a stay. It looks like the perfect get-a-way for a short break and isn't too costly either. I'd love the take the kids camping one day but whilst Harrison is still so little I think this would be the next best thing. The wigwams are also heated so we could visit all year round. I'm thinking of booking a short break this summer for the three of us for a couple of nights to test the waters of going away on our own.

BlueStone Wales - Pembrokeshire
Duration 4 nights

After visiting Bluestone last June I said that we would return some day as it was such a lovely relaxing break. I decided to book a short break with them for later this year and my parents have offered to come along too to help out with the kids. Plus it will be nice to have some company and Amelia will love that her Grandparents are there too. We are all booked to go late September so it should still be pretty warm and we can make the most of the beautiful surroundings.

Center Parcs - Sherwood Forest, Nottinghamshire
Duration Mid week 4 night break

With five villages to choose from across the UK we are spoilt for choice. I'll probably book the one closest to home which is Sherwood Forest just incase we have to come back for any reason. I'm thinking of booking a short break either this summer or the beginning of next year I have decided yet. There will be plenty for the kids to do there and activities for us to do throughout the day. I've found some great deals at just £300 which is half of the price it usually would be during peak times.

Thomas Land, Drayton Manor Theme Park
Duration 2-3 days

Again this is another theme park that I'd love to take Amelia to. We were actually offered the chance to visit for their VIP opening of the new park last month but were unable to attend which was such a shame. Since it's around 3 hours away we would most likely stay the night before to save travelling up in the morning and get a two day pass. I think this will have to be a holiday for when Harrison is old enough to go on the rides too though.

Disneyland Paris - France
Duration 3-4 day break

We visited Disneyland Paris last May when Amelia had just turned two which was a great age to discover Disneyland. Although we didn't go on as many rides as we would have liked we still had a fantastic time. I'd love to the both of the kids when Harry is a little bit older so they can both enjoy it and go on the rides together. I would most likely book a holiday package at a hotel nearby/on site so make it more manageable with the kids on my own and if not I'd return to Eurocamp which isn't too far away. I'm quite happy with the travelling as it's all by car and Ferry so could quite happily drive there or take a plane as that may be quicker.

Tenerife/Cyprus
Duration 7-10 nights

For our first holiday abroad as a family of three I thought somewhere short haul like Tenerife of Cyprus would be perfect! Having been to Tenerife a few times now and living there for a month back in 2010 I have a fair idea of what to see and do in Playa de las Americas. I'd most likely book an all inclusive resort with kids clubs to make it more manageable. I'm thinking of booking a holiday either next summer or possibly the year after.

Disney Cruise - Caribbean
Duration 7-10 nights

I have recently been looking at Disney cruise holidays as another option for a holiday abroad. A cruise holiday would be perfect for the three of us and it would mean we wouldn't have to leave the ship once on board other than for the day visits. From four Disney cruise ships to choose from, there is so much to do when on board and the kids would never get bored. Plus with the kids clubs on board, I can get some much needed me time too! I probably wouldn't go until Harrison is a little older to experience it better plus I'd need to save up first.

Dominican republic - Caribbean
Duration 10-14 nights

I've been on holiday to the Dominican Republic many times when I was younger and we also took Amelia back in November 2013 which was such an amazing holiday. I do love all inclusive beach holidays and the Caribbean is the perfect place for that! I'd love to take the kids there, but not sure I'd be brave enough to do a 9+ hour flight on my own with them at this age so I'd most likely wait until Harrison is at least 4 and could make it a yearly thing. My parents have also said they would like to return someday so possibly another family holiday on the cards?

Disneyworld - Florida
Duration 10-14 nights

Ever since I visited Disneyworld Florida as a child I have always wanted to return some day and after taking Amelia when we were in Paris last year I said that we would take her when she is older to enjoy the experience. Now that Harry is here too I'd love to take them both when Harry is at least 5 although I may wait until he's around 8.

  3. We are so lucky to have Peppa Pig world on our doorstep and visited quite a few times when Miss A was smaller. I've been to Center Parcs Sherwood and it was may favourite of all the parks we have visited. We took our first trip to Disney Florida last year and it was amazing.
That's a great bucket list, I think a Disney Cruise would be amazing, I would love to do that.

  8. Great bucket list!! I think these are pretty much all on our list too! We're thinking of going to Centre Parcs when I'm on maternity leave at a time when its off peak. My biggest problem is that as I'm a teacher I have to go on holiday during school holidays which means forking out for peak times. Feel like I need to make the most of it during maternity leave!!
