STORAGE SOLUTIONS: LINEN CUPBOARD MAKEOVER

Space Station recently challenged me to identify a storage problem in the house and create a solution for it with a budget of £50. I have many corners of the house that I want to tackle over time but one of the main areas which has been bugging me for a while now is the linen cupboard on the landing. I am ashamed to even show you the before image as it's such a mess! Ever since we moved in back in September 2013 it's been used as a place to hide objects which didn't have a home, my printer and also my ever growing pile of review products and samples! I'm pretty sure I did keep some towels and bedding in there somewhere too!

Well I'd had enough and decided to not put it off any longer and got to work! I got rid of anything I no longer needed or used as well as old bedding and towels that looked out of place. As you can see it was full to the brim and very cluttered before hand.

I love storage boxes and have many scattered across the house in pretty much every single room! I love the fact that you can hide away bits and bobs and the room still looks tidy. That's what I wanted to create with the linen cupboard, I didn't want it to look cluttered. So I bought a couple of large white baskets from eBay to hold pillowcases and face cloths as well as a couple of wicker baskets to store bedding and larger towels. Storage baskets are a cheap alternative to purchasing furniture and make use of the space.

I used an old log basket I had in the attic to hold toilet rolls as I am forever misplacing toilet rolls when I get the shopping delivered so this way there are easy to access when needed. I also purchased a towel holder for the back of the door which is a nice added touch as it allows me to store more towels in the cupboard. I wanted to keep the space looking neutral so opted for light beige, cream and grey colours which go well together. I have grey and cream towels to match and will alternate between the two colours.

Overall I am very happy with the progress so far but I do want to add another shelf at the bottom as that will give me more storage space for bathroom supplies and other bits and bobs. I just need to ask someone nicely to help make me one as I'm not very good at DIY!

What do you think of the makeover? Let me know below, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

  1. I love the before and after pictures. It really shows what a bit of organisation can do. I was in two minds about getting an over the door towel rail or one that is fixed to the wall, but looking at it I think I might go for over the door. Oh, and I also have put my toilet paper in a hamper basket that was used at Easter. When something has a place now I am over the moon. :-) x

  3. I love a space makeover! I'd be tempted to add an extra shelf in there. I've never seen a radiator in a closet before, or you couldn't shelved it right to the floor. Great transformation! I love those cream wipe clean baskets...we have many of those! I was even sad enough to add labels on the front! x

  6. I love how organised this is, its making me want to have a good sort out! Our airing cupboard is one I want to sort! I just stack things on top of each other and hope they don't fall out when I open the door!

  7. Wow what a transformation. I love the neutral colour scheme. We have recently decluttered our laundry cupboard. It feels so good to declutter and organise.

  12. It looks great! I'm the same as you have things all over the house that need organising, one thing at a time though! This has totally given me inspirations to our linen closet though. I have bags and shoes in mine as well as towels, bedding!
