WEEKLY FOOD SHOP & MEAL PLAN #1

I've never been a fan of going to the local supermarket to do the weekly food shop. For as long as I can remember I have been doing it online from the comfort of my own home, why go to the supermarket when you can do it from the comfort of your own sofa? It completely baffles me. I know some people prefer to see what they are buying in the flesh and others like to get out of the house which is fine but it just doesn't appeal to me. The queuing, arrogant people and screaming children is enough to put me off, especially for someone who doesn't like being surrounded by a sea of people. Of course I still pop to the shops on the odd occasion to get extra bits we need but that's without the kids and it means I'm in and out.

I enjoy watching grocery hauls and seeing other peoples meal plans for the week - maybe I'm just nosy but I like to see what inspiration I can get for our own meals and it's always nice to find new recipes.

I had started sharing my meal plans for the week before Harrison was born but since then I haven't really been meal planning. I've been wanting to get back into it for a few weeks now and thought this week was as good as any. I know we're almost at the end of the week but here's what I planned for this weeks meals. I don't usually stick to what I have written down on each day, as I tend to choose what I'm in the mood for on that day.

Monday - Chicken Pasta Bake with bacon and cheese served with garlic bread

Tuesday - Chicken Tarragon with rice

Wednesday -  Homemade pizza and chips for Amelia as I ate out that evening

Thursday - Takeaway as it's Andys night day off work we usually opt for a takeaway of some sort

Friday - Some sort of takeaway again as Andy finishes work around 6

Saturday - Baked Chicken Alfredo. I use this recipe here

Sunday - Roast Chicken as I've missed having my roast dinners lately!

What meals are you having this week? Let me know below.

I will try and keep this up every week and maybe share my meal plans on a Sunday or Monday. I've also been thinking of filming some grocery hauls, so do let me know if you'd like to see them.

Do you do your weekly shop online like myself or at the supermarket? If you've never done it online before I would highly recommend it as it takes the stress away and allows me more time to spend at home or out and about with the family. There's also a great "favourites" function which I use regularly which allows me to easily locate the items which I usually tend to buy. If you usually shop in store but would like to try your first online shop then your favourite items will also be available to view and add to your shopping basket when you first register.

Tesco have made a cute video which will be released later this afternoon called "Family Magic" to celebrate this function and here's a sneak peak for you to watch. Online grocery shopping is really just like magic! You can find out more here.

  1. I love doing my shopping online but I hate getting poor quality fruit & veg. It's the one thing that puts me off.
I really need to get back into doing meal plans. My OH is always home before me and does enjoy cooking which is handy but I like to prepare things the night before instead. My slow cooker is my saviour recently. I'm sure that'll change as winter fades away though :)

  2. I always do my shopping online. Like you, I don't enjoy the 'in-store experience' ;) especially with a wriggly toddler in tow. Thanks for sharing your meal plan. You've inspired me to make chicken tarragon tonight. Haven't had it for ages x

  3. I tried to do online shopping on the Tesco website before but I gave up eventually. Too much clicking. lol
I am much quicker going through the shop. I do my shopping in Lidl because it is the cheapest.
I do prefer to do any other sort of shopping online though.

  4. I do a weekly shop online although depending on Hubby's shifts it can sometimes be every ten days or so. I do a meal plan but we've been running down the freezer over the last few weeks so haven't really been planning at all. That changes next week! x

  5. I try to plan my meals, but I'm a big fan of food and so only like to eat what I really fancy on a certain day, meaning my plan sometimes goes out the window! I do my shopping online, but I sometimes find they miss some things from the order, or the quality of something isn't what I want. I try to do fruit and veg shopping just locally as a result, rather than buying it online.

  6. I keep trying to get into the habit of doing a meal plan but then I somehow don't quite get around to it. I have sweet and sour chicken planned for tomorrow and lasagne the day after, but that's as far as I've got so far.

  9. I used to be in a really good routine and did my weekly shop online for a couple months, but with moving and all i kind of stopped doing it, although in hindsight i probably should have kept doing the online shops as it may have helped me out a bit and been a little less stressful. You can guarantee to save money doing meal plans and shopping online, no in store yummy bakery smells and temptations to get you to spend more! x

I don't shop online as I like to pick my own fresh produce, I don't use a meal planner but have been thinking about doing it for a while, like yourself my partner works shifts and one week doesn't get home til 10pm so we usually opt for a take away to but waste so much money we have got to start budgeting and a meal planner will help but with two fussy children it seems mission impossible xxxx

  21. I have never ordered online. I feel they may give you food that will go out of date faster. But the meal plan is a fab idea. When baby starts weaning we will deffo do this

  23. I have shopped online but I was disappointed with the quality and shelf life of the fresh produce. I much prefer being able to examine the goods before buying them. I guess it depends on the person picking your shopping for you though.

  24. I love to do it online but I do find that the replacements they bring for some items are totally unrelated to what you originally ordered :)

  25. although I do online groceries they do not pick the freshest dates, which is annoying.

  26. My wife always checks the dates on everything, so she goes to the shop, usually early morning as I go to work so it's not busy (except for the internet shoppers!! Ha-ha). We always do a weekly menu prior to making the shopping list, and also have a Monday and/or Friday where we have a "hoover up what's left) day....

  28. I do keep intending to get around to meal planning. I think it makes it much easier to shop and not waste any food if you do. But I do think it takes away the pleasure of just having what you fancy sometimes.

  35. It really is a good idea to have one day per week, just before the weekly shop, to have a "get what's left" day!

    ReplyDelete

  37. We shop online too... usually for delivery on a Sunday (or a Monday if we forget to book it on Saturday). We still manage to forget things though so some weeks I feel like I'm in the store every day!
