SPENDING BAN

Hi, I'm Kerry and I'm addicted to Dr Pepper. I know, it may sound silly to some but I am actually addicted to the stuff. There's not a day goes by where I don't indulge in a can or two. Somedays even up to 4 or 5 cans a day! I was recently challenged to go on a week-long spending ban, where I would give up something that I purchase on a regular basis and try to go a whole week without buying it. so I decided to try and kick my habit and give up my beloved choice of drink for the week. Anyone who knows me well will know how hard of a challenge that would be.

The week is now up and I haven't consumed or bought any Dr Pepper go me! I'll admit, it was extremely hard but I am proud of myself for accomplishing something which I have wanted to do for a while now. I've also managed to save £15 which I would usually spend on the stuff each week. That may not sound like much, but that's £60 a month and a whooping £720 a year which soon adds up! Just think what I could be spending that money on, or even saving it for a holiday. I'm going to try and stick to my ban or at the very least cut down so I can start putting some money into savings as I currently don't have any behind me.

This challenge has also made me revaluate how much I used to rely on Dr Pepper, it was the only drink I would consume throughout the day. I don't drink hot drinks or water and if we would go out then I would have a coke or pepsi. I don't like drinking water straight from the tap, so instead I bought a large bottle of water and started filling up smaller bottle from the fridge instead as I can only drink water if its ice cold. I've noticed a huge difference in my skin this week already and I feel much healthier for it. So even if I do go back to drinking the odd can of Dr Pepper, I will most definitely be increasing my intake of water.

What would you give up if you were challenged to give up something you purchase on a regular basis?

  1. My addiction is tea! I recently had to cut my intake as I was having palpitations which made me notice I had an ectopic heartbeat! Dr told me to cut down as tea is full of caffeine apparently...started drinking plenty more water and like you started to feel really different! I have slipped back into not drinking so much water so have to keep reminding myself how I want to be healthy!

  2. I have to admit Dr Pepper is my biggest weakness! I just hate water too but since starting my diet I've learnt to love water so it isn't all bad! Well done with your spending ban. Great way to save money!

  3. Haha oh dear, I too have an addiction, but mine is to chocolate. Sometimes I leave the house specifically just to buy some but I have been trying to cut down (unsuccessfully)

  4. I would love to do something like this but don't really have anything I eat/drink etc that often. I do love an occasional Dr Pepper though x

  5. Wow what a great challenge. I drink coffee like you drink Dr Pepper and I cut way back and found how much better my skin and hair and even nails were. I am the same only like water from bottled in the fridge ice cold. Other than that I don't drink anything else. Way to go for wanting to save and cutting back and going a whole week. So proud of you.

  6. I was a fan of Dr Pepper in late pregnancy but it doesn't really appeal anymore luckily. I used to be a bit addicted to Diet coke but managed to curb it a bit although I still have it as the odd treat. I always notice massive improvements when I stop it and just drink water.. I love Evian - water snob ;-) xx
