HARRISON | 1 WEEK OLD

Harrison turned 1 week old on Friday. How is he already a week old? I can't believe how fast this week has flown by even though it feels like he's always been part of our lives. I wish the days were longer or time would slow down so we can soak up these early newborn days just a bit longer as it makes me sad that this may possibly be the last time we get to experience having a newborn so I want to make the most of these days before they are gone.

This week has been one of the most amazing weeks of my life. I love that we are now a family of four and it honestly feels like we always have been and that Harry has been here all this time. I feel so much more confident in looking after a newborn this time round, there are things that I don't do that I did with Amelia. It's a completely different experience. Harry is completely different to how his big sister was as a newborn. He is much more content which is amazing. He barely cries, usually only when he's being changed as he doesn't like being cold and occasionally he will cry when he's hungry but no where near as much as Amelia. He sleeps pretty much all day in his Moses Basket however has been nocturnal at night the past few nights although he slept really well the first couple of nights which was good. We are using the Snuzpod co-sleeper upstairs which he will sleep in for a couple of hours and then when he gets grizzly/restless ends up in bed with us as he will only fall back to sleep on me then, and at least this way I'm getting some sleep too.

The midwives have been over to check on him and he did originally loose 9% of his birth weight and went down to 7lb 11.5oz and by Wednesday he had put 4oz back on which is good to see that he's gaining weight. I would assume by now that he is back up to his birth weight as he isn't looking as small as he was but we won't find out now until the health visitor visits next week. His cord fell off at around 5 days and it looks like he might have an outie. He's had a bit of a weepy eye for the past 4-5 days, which has been gunky. It looks like it's finally clearing up now.

Nursing is going well, however at the moment we are mix feeding as I don't seem to have enough milk to satisfy him. The first few days he would only sleep and wouldn't eat so my milk took much longer to come in this time where as with Amelia she was such a hungry baby and was constantly attached to me feeding 24/7. I'm loving the night time nursing sessions, as it gives me time to myself as well as being able to bond with Harrison. Once we have a better supply established I think I will start expressing instead of giving those few formula feeds. At least this way Andy can also be involved and help out with the feeding as he really wanted to and he can do some of the night feeds too!

Most people have said he looks more like me than Andy which I couldn't see to begin with but I do think he has my eyes. He also looks like Amelia in so many photos especially some of her newborn photos. His eyes are a dark blue at the moment which I think may turn to brown. He also has quite a lot of hair, a lot more than Amelia had and it's dark so we don't think he's going to have as light hair as she does.

Daddy went back to work this week so we've been getting into our own little routine which has been going pretty well go far. Yes it can be frustrating having a toddler wanting your attention and the baby screaming the house down needing feeding too but I wouldn't have it any other way. Amelia has been pushing our buttons this week, but I guess she is just getting used to sharing us with H. She is getting better but still won't hold him. She is however very protective over him, always asking where he is, if he's okay, telling us he's been sick, when he's crying and she will say goodnight to him every night. The first few days took a little adjusting to as she would cry every time he would but she soon snapped out of that.

It's so strange going from having a girl to a boy... maybe it's just me but nappy changes take 10 times longer ha ha! I'm yet to be peed on so I guess that's a bonus!

  3. He is precious! Happy 1 week!

My older daughter would cry for the longest time whenever her little sister was crying. It was awful, just so loud. And then she would act so bratty because she was jealous. But it gets better, before you know it they will be the best of friends! :)

  4. He's beautiful. Re your supply, just feed, feed, feed - the more he feeds, the more milk he will get your body to make....putting his order in at the milk bar so to speak. He will feed more frequently and you might think he's hungry, but your body will soon catch up with him xx
