STARTING A FAMILY - MILESTONE MOMENTS

I remember when I found out I was pregnant for the first time, I was no longer responsible for just myself. I would soon have another human being in my arms to look after and ensure that they had a safe secure roof over their head. Starting a family and having the responsibility of looking after some else can be rather daunting which is why life insurance is so important.

I'll admit that I've never had life insurance. I think partly because I just haven't got round to buying it and the thought of more forms and paperwork to fill in just makes me nervous. But of course I realise how important it is to have that safety net for Amelia and our family if anything was to happen. I was surprised to learn that life insurance doesn't cost a lot and regret not having got it sooner!

Aviva who have years of experience with all sorts of life insurance have produced a couple of videos looking at milestone moments in life. The "Having a baby" video below shares important tips and information to remember when you've had your new baby such as discussing saving money and how to get into your new routine.

Do you have life insurance? Or are you like myself and keep putting it off because you don't want the hassle of the paperwork or will you struggle to afford it? If you're not too sure and don't quiet understand the importance of life protection, Aviva have recently launched a new initiative which aims to enlighten people about life insurance at crucial moments in their life. For us it was having a baby, but it could be anything from getting married, moving home or getting a new job.

These are all Milestone Moments and Aviva want to hear from you. They want to know which moments in your life stand out in their recent competition #milestonemoments which is currently running on their Facebook page until November 14th! You could be in with the chance of winning £250 worth of high street vouchers just in time for Christmas. So what are you waiting for? Head on over to their Facebook page to enter now.

Have you got life insurance? Or is this something that you keep on putting off purchasing like myself?

  1. My partner has it but I don't. We have just updated it as we now have 3 kids, whereas we were a couple when the policy was taken out. I think its a good idea to have it.x

  2. It's important that couples are able to sit down and discuss how they will manage if something should happen to one of them. My husband needed to be forced to have that discussion and I would urge everyone to take the time because none of us knows what fate has in store for us.

  5. We had it already, but what dawned on me, was that I needed to get cover for my son. God forbid anything should happen to him, but I think it is important that money/getting back to work etc, not be an extra burden if the unthinkable ever happened

  6. I don't have life insurance - I know it's selfish, but I could be paying in for decades and what my family receive in return is not the same amount as I've paid in. Also, If I fall ill and miss a payment, ALL that cash has gone!
I have a better solution, I have a separate bank account where I pay in as much as I want and I can miss a payment when I want - without risking losing it all.

  7. I haven't got life insurance now, but I did have, for years. There's enough equity in my property now to not have to worry so much about if bad things happen, but it's good to have peace of mind until you get to that stage. Suzanne McC

  12. You have to discuss "worse case scenarios" be it death, serious illness or redundancy, to have some sort of plan to get through it, no matter how morbid....
