34 WEEK PREGNANCY UPDATE BABY #2

This week baby boy is the size of a butternut squash, he is around 17.75 inches long and weighs roughly 4.75lb. This week has probably been the first that I've felt at that fed up stage towards the end of pregnancy. I didn't get it until I was about 38 weeks last time but I think as I'm much bigger already this time it's harder to do things, for example simple things like putting socks on, getting out of bed or off the sofa, carrying Amelia up and down the stairs if she's being lazy.

It's also getting very uncomfortable when I'm sitting down, more so at night time and I think he has a foot wedged in my right rib as I'm always getting pressure and shooting pains underneath it. I've also been getting a lot of twinges and shooting pains which I'm guessing are just round ligament pain but I don't remember getting them this early on last time. It's mainly when I've been on my feet for too long especially at work as I don't sit down so I feel the pain more.

I'm getting braxton hicks much more regularly, and probably every 10-15 minutes at night for most of the night. Sometimes they come every 5 minutes and are much tighter than I remember with Amelia. I've been having a few dizzy spells where I see stars for a good half hour or so, usually when I'm on my feet for a while or haven't eaten and my hearing also goes distant. My most recent one was yesterday however all I was doing was sitting down wrapping presents! I had to stop as I literally couldn't see anything and they wouldn't disappear!

I still can't believe how big I've gotton this time round, although everyone who sees me can't believe I'm this far along and always says I look tiny but I think that's just my small frame. I'm definitely feeling huge this time and I've put another 3lb this week so getting closer to 9 stone which will be the heaviest I've ever been! I have another midwife appointment next Tuesday at 35 weeks so we will see if he's catching up with his measurements as was measuring 2-3 weeks behind at previous appointments.

Thinking about buying a pair or maternity jeans this week, my leggings and jeggings still fit fine however my work trousers and normal everyday jeans are getting tight and I'm finding myself having to undo them at night ha ha! I could just use the hairband trick but we'll see if I can find a nice pair of jeans. I bought paint yesterday and I have the week off work so will finally start painting the nursery. I keep putting it off but don't really want to be climbing up ladders or standing on chairs in another couple of weeks so will definitely be doing it this week then I can finish off the last few details in his nursery and share a room tour.

I've decided to go on maternity leave earlier than originally planned. I had made the decision to go at 38 weeks which is a few days before Christmas, however with all the pains I've already been getting and how much bigger I am this time round I'm thinking I made a mistake and my boss also suggested it to me too so I will bring it forward to 36 or 37 weeks so I can have a few weeks hopefully to relax before he arrives. I went on maternity leave at around 33/34 weeks with Amelia as I was put on bed rest and it felt like I was off for months as she was two weeks late too so I didn't want to be off too early this time.

  4. I think pregnancy is always harder when you have a little toddler to look after. Probably a good idea leaving work early so you can rest x

  6. Second time around I couldn't believe how easy it must have been first time around without the potty training toddler in tow. Nurture yourself and your baby. It's the most important thing.

  10. Wow! I am at 18 weeks and my belly looks like yours at 30 ish weeks! Oi! This is my third and I think I wasn't even this big for my first until we were about 5-6 months along. I get a little jealous when I read things like, "I'm 18 weeks and not showing!" Ah well, almost half way. My first weighed 7 lbs, 8 oz, and my second was 8 lbs. 9 oz.. I hope the third isn't aiming for 9 lbs., 10 oz! My weight gain isn't extreme, I'm just showing a lot earlier it seems.
