CREATING A MODERN BOOKSHELF

I'm forever receiving emails, and comments on Instagram with questions on where Amelia's bookshelves are from so today I thought I would let you all know. Personally for me bookshelves add a personalised touch to a child's room, I love seeing what books are on display and it's great to encourage reading from an early age. I love switching her books up every once in a while and the fact that I can make them seasonal is even better! You may have seen her Easter book collection here and I will be sharing her Autumn and Halloween books soon.

Bookshelves come in a wide range of sizes and colours, you can fix them to the wall anywhere you like, arrange different types of books for example every season such as Christmas, Valentines, Halloween there are so many options.

These shelves are the Ikea Picture ledges and they also come in a longer length too, not only useful for displaying pictures and accessories but they make the perfect solution to displaying kids books. They were pretty easy to install, I even did it myself. I've also seen may people making their own shelves just like these out of gutter rails and also spice racks, there are so many options!

I'm not much of a DIY person myself but I wanted to share this video with you as it's very interesting to see how easy it is to create your own bookshelves! If you're good with your hands (or perhaps your partner is) then why not build your own instead! You can then make them the size you like which is great for awkward corners and walls which are smaller.

If you're not sure where to get started with DIY and power tools like myself, this multi tool is a great place to start!

Does your child have a reading area with bookshelves? Let me know below, as I'd love to see!

  1. We are sorely in need of some new bookshelves. I do like the idea of having some shelving built in or attached to the walls.
