POTTY TRAINING ESSENTIALS

Potty training has been going suprisenely well so far, I had wanted to start at the beginning of the summer but Amelia had other ideas. I did know that we wanted her to be potty trained by the time baby boy arrives as it will be much cheaper with only one lot of nappies to buy. We're still using nappies at night time, however she is fully potty trained during the day at home. We did have a few days of wearing nappies during the day when she was ill as she wouldn't move off the sofa but this couldn't be helped but she is now back to using the potty again.

Here are the few essentials which have helped us:

Potty - We bought this back when Amelia was around 16 months or so and have had it lying around the house so she could get used to it. When we initially introduced her to the potty all she wanted to do was walk around with it on her head or scoot across the floor sat on it.

Training seat - I bought this after we tried to get Amelia to use the potty, and after two weeks of not wanting to sit on it I thought perhaps she would rather use the big toilet as she always shows a lot of interest in it when in the bathroom. Just to my luck it took a while to arrive and one day Amelia decided she wanted to use the potty. When it did finally arrive I kept it packed away for a couple of weeks and then introduced Amelia to it one day after bath time.

Potty Books - I've found that reading some potty training books with Amelia has helped her understand the use of the potty. I bought a few from eBay many months ago and we read them before bed.

Pampers pull ups - When we first started potty training I would let Amelia run around the house without a nappy on. She would run to the potty when she needed to go. We now use pull up pants when we go out of the house just incase of any accidents and we will start to use them at bed time instead of normal nappies soon.

Big girl pants - I bought these once I thought we were getting somewhere with potty training and told Amelia they were pants for big girls. We started wearing them so she wasn't walking around the house bare bottom and now she pulls them down herself when she uses the potty.

Did you have any essentials that aren't on our list?

Oh my Gosh, I tried to potty train my twins during the summer, but they were not fine with it, so I decided to give up and try again during christmas holidays, that they will stay home and they dont need to go to the kindergarden.. I hope we will make it this time! I need to buy the wc seat as well!

  5. Really a big task it is. I remember, when it was to give our Jack Potty training, we both have completely gone mad. It was too difficult to make him agree to follow it. The most important part is to teach them to seat. Good blog! Remind me of the old days! Thanks.
