TODDLERS FIRST PET

I've always grown up around animals, ever since we got our first guinea pigs when I was about 5. Since then we've had many dogs and cats over the years including rabbits and goldfish. To be honest I'm more of a dog person personally as I feel that they become part of the family so much more than any other pet we've owned. Since moving out of my parents house a few years ago I have missed having a pet of my own. I would love for us to have a dog of our own, a friend for Amelia to play with.

Ever since Amelia was born I have been wanting to buy her a puppy, however since we live in rented accommodation our landlord will only consider a cat. I'm really not a cat person so we wouldn't buy one just for the sake of it. Perhaps in a few years when Amelia and baby boy are both older and we're in our own house we can buy a puppy. She loves animals and will also point and shout at dogs when we are out and about. She's not afraid to run up to them and stroke them and has even been able to give a few of them treats. Her grandparents have pets so when ever we visit them she is also stroking the cats or dogs and it's lovely to see how she interact with them.

Until we can buy a puppy for Amelia I have seen some great deals on goldfish so maybe we could buy Amelia one for her birthday. I've never been that great at keeping goldfish alive however I think Amelia would be fascinated if we bought her a few fish. There's a lot to think about when buying any pet, can we afford to look after a pet, will they get looked after correctly and what equipment you will need to purchase. I've seen a few aquariums online at All Pond Solutions which seem to be just what we would need as they look nicer than having a little goldfish bowl.

Have you considered getting a pet for your toddler or do you already have pets? How did they react to them?

  2. I studied animal care and the best animals to get a toddler are rats lol I know most people hate them as well but they hardly ever bite even if they are squashed.

  4. I think pets are so so important to a child's upbringing! Ophelia is SO enamoured with our cat and has been from such an early age! Now that she's walking she chases her around the house. She loves dogs too, when we go to the park she tries to follow them around the park and is desperate to stroke them, even the ones that don't want to be stroked! It's so cute! xx
