17 Week Pregnancy Update - Baby #2

This week baby is the size on an onion and measuring around 5.9oz. We had our gender scan yesterday and found out we are having a baby boy! The scan went really well even though he wouldn't show us anything to begin with as he was curled up in a ball fast asleep and the technician tried to get him to move about for about 20 minutes. I had to lie on my side and also tilt backwards on the bed and he still wouldn't budge! She finally suggested that I go for a walk to get him to wake up, so we went back outside. I said to Andy as soon as we left the room that the baby looked like a boy, I don't know why but the facial features didn't look feminine like Amelia's did and I just had an incline in was a boy.

Whilst Andy looked after Amelia I went to the bathroom and jumped up and down and wiggled my belly about in hope to get him to wake up. We were called back through 15 minutes later and could see that he had moved positions as soon as she put the doppler on my belly. He had however gone back to sleep so she tried to nudge him a little and he stretched out and opened his legs for us to see. The cord was in the way but we both looked at each other and I asked "is it a boy" and she confirmed. There was no denying it once she managed to get a clear shot before he quickly crossed his legs again.

We are so happy to be having a healthy little boy and can't wait for Amelia to have a little brother. It does feel weird as I know nothing about boys and now so used to having a girl for the past two years! I've gone mad online and made quite a few purchases already, I just couldn't help myself! I think baby boy has enough clothes to last him till he's at least 3 months already oooops! I can't wait to sort out the nursery too and finally sort through all of Amelia's newborn and baby items to see what we can keep and get rid of.

Pregnancy wise, this week I've been getting really bad cramps after every meal time, even more so in the evenings to the point where I can't even sit up and have to curl up in a ball. I usually end up going  upstairs around 10pm just so I can lie down in bed and try to ease the pain. I have no idea where it's appeared from all of a sudden. Any one else experience that after eating during pregnancy? I've also noticed a lot of leg cramps during the night and keep waking myself up with my toes separating ha ha!

There's not really much else to update you on this week but I shall do a baby buys haul soon as well as a Nursery inspiration board and I have lots of ideas! I know I'm only 17 weeks but it seems to be flying by and before I know it I'll be in my final weeks.

You can read my 16 week update here incase you missed it and keep an eye out for week 18 next Friday.

Reading your posts is getting me so so broody!

I got very bad cramps, so bad that I was crying every single night! It stopped when I was 13 weeks. But then came back not long after. But it was in evening time I had it, not after I ate.
And leg cramping! Ouch. With Mia I woke up 4-5am waking up with leg cramps. And leg cramps and foot cramp when I was pregnant with Elliw! :(

  7. I get cramps pretty bad too, my midwife suggested magnesium aspartate and it has really helped, it also might give you a shorter labor time. Also, try lavender essential oil on your feet, it really helps relax mine when they are feeling crampy!
