13 Week Pregnancy Update - Baby #2

Hi everyone, I'm 13+4 days pregnant today and finally in the second trimester!! It feels like it's taken forever to get to week 13 but since my scan the days are flying by. I've been feeling pretty good this week other than having really bad nausea and I think my iron is getting lower as I'm always feeling faint. I have been taking iron tablets but we'll see if they've been working when I get my blood test results back. As soon as I wake up in the morning I have to eat, otherwise I get that I'm going to be sick feeling which I hate as I then don't feel like eating anything.

I've felt like I have more energy this week even though sleep has been pretty rubbish, I go to bed around 1/2 am and wake up at 5/6am as Amelia has been waking up much earlier so by mid-day I'm like a zombie as she doesn't nap during the day. Think I'm going to have to starting going around 12am though as it's starting to really hit me so I can get at least 5 or 6 hours sleep. I'm used to only getting that many hours usually but when pregnant it really does hit you. So even though I've not had much sleep I don't feel as lazy or tired as I did say at around 7/8 weeks.

I've booked an early gender scan for the end of this month when I'll be 17ish weeks as our 20 week scan letter came through the post and isn't booked until I'm 21 weeks so I don't think I can wait that long to find out. I like to plan ahead, so once we know the gender I can start organising all of Amelia's baby stuff and either finally get rid of them or start sorting them for the new baby.

Still no weight gain which I am thankful for, however I am so so bloated by the end of the day and as soon as I eat my belly doubles in size! It's crazy. Doesn't help that I'm constantly hungry either. No cravings this week but I am still having food aversions, one minute I'll fancy something and then I go to eat it and gag. Still can't drink Dr Pepper in the evenings, so sticking to water after dinner. I have noticed I am eating more ice lollies, even though I used to eat one nearly every day I'm now eating at least two a day.

There's not really much else to update you on this week as I'm still early into this pregnancy. Also, I promise this blog won't turn into a pregnancy blog and there will still be posts on Amelia as well as other general stuff which I tend to blog about. My 14 week update will be up on Friday and then I'll finally have caught up.

  1. I have no idea how you survive on that little sleep! I'm just about a week behind you and without 8-9 hours I'm exhausted all day (granted, I wake up every so often during the night so its not the best sleep) - love reading your little updates!

  4. I take Spatone for anaemia, it works better than tablets and doesn't leave you constipated but it isn't available on prescription, you can buy it at Boots.

  5. Omg! You must be shattered. But to be honest when I only had Mia I would go to bed really late. When I had Elliw I now go to bed between 9-11pm!! But usually its 9-10.30 its only 11 at the latest recently because of Big Brother! xx

  10. You must be exhausted! I need more sleep then that and I'm not preggo! Do you have a gender preference? I loved having an older sister, so two girls would be so sweet, but then again it's always nice to have one of each! x

    1. I am but i'm used to it especially since having Amelia she's never been much of a sleeper so always managed on little sleep, just not great when pregnant haha!! I honestly don't mind, either will be fine although would be nice to experience a little boy too, but if Amelia had a little sister that would be great too and save us money haha x

  13. I've used Spatone in all three pregnancies before, and am using it in this one. It's far more effecitve than iron tablets at keeping your iron levels up. I take two sachets in a glass of orange juice each morning. It is easier on the stomach than the tablets too. Might be worth a look at.

    1. I've just started taking some as I had some samples from Britmums and you're right its much easier to take, I had the apple flavour so no need to put it in orange juice just drink it straight. I may get some of the ones to drink in the orange juice though as they do leave an after taste in your mouth haha x

  15. I'm with you on the ice lolly cravings - just from the other end of the spectrum as it were - they're just bliss when you don't want to eat anything, or life just gets a bit hot!
