It goes without saying that London is absolutely packed with things to do. And while a weekend might seem like ages, in the buzz of the city, you’ll soon find yourself running out of time to do everything you want! I remember visiting last June and we didn't have enough time to do as much as we would have liked! So to get the most out of your weekend, it’s best to plan ahead. Here are five great activities to enjoy when you visit London:
Soak up some culture
London has some of the world’s best museums and galleries for you to enjoy, and with many of them offering free entry, they’re a great option for an affordable day out. Whether you love classic art or prefer quirkier contemporary styles, are fascinated by history or want to embrace your inner science geek, there’s a wealth of places to visit. Try the Tate Modern gallery to see lots of intriguing contemporary and classic art, or head over to the Natural History Museum for dinosaur displays and much more.
Embrace the magic
Whether or not you think you’re a Harry Potter fan, a trip to the amazing Hogwarts Castle will bring out your inner wizard, without fail. Take a tour of the world of Harry Potter, where you can do everything from cast a spell with your own magic wand, try your hand at Quidditch or defeat an evil Death Eater in a duel. A truly spellbinding experience, you’ll recognise some of the most famous streets and sites from the movies!
Shop, shop, shop!
No trip to London is complete without a little retail therapy, but to prevent yourself from getting overwhelmed by the immense choice of things on offer, it’s a good idea to plan where you want to go beforehand. If you’re looking for the best of high street brands all in one place, then head over to Oxford Street, where you’ll find flagship stores of some of the most famous stores, including Forever 21, Primark, Topshop and more. If designer labels are more your thing, then a trip to the Mecca of designer fashion, Harrods, is an absolute must.
You might be surprised to know that London Zoo is the world’s oldest scientific zoo. Opened in 1828 and located right in the centre of London in Regent’s Park, it’s a chance to see some incredible animals, in a wonderful refuge away from the hustle and bustle of the city. See the regal Sumatran tigers or meet the playful monkeys. For the really brave, you can even pet a tarantula!
See the stars on stage
London’s West End is world famous for its fantastic productions, stellar casts and ground breaking plays, so a trip to the theatre will definitely be a memorable one. It’s worth booking ahead of your trip to make sure you get tickets – big shows like the Book of Mormon will often sell out for weeks on end, so make sure you’re not disappointed!
