Smart Trike 4-in-1 Dream Review

You may remember me mentioning at the end of last year that we were sent the Smart Trike 4-in-1 Dream tricycle for Amelia to try out. We have been putting it through its paces for the past few months and now that the weather is finally starting to clear up we've been able to get out on it much more. When it first arrived the weather was appalling however we did manage to get out on it once or twice before Christmas to the park and then it was sadly waiting to be used again once the rain had stopped. I also wanted to wait until Amelia was using the trike at the next stage so I could give more of a thorough review of the first setting.

The Smart Trike 4 in 1 is a tricycle ride on toy and stroller for babies and children starting from the age of 10 months and will last right through till 36 months. Once confidence grows you can transition them through each of the four stages and eventually remove the parent handle so they can wheel around independently when ready.

Testing the Smart Trike for the first time at 18 months.

Andy found it pretty easy to put together and had it set up and ready to go within minutes however on our first outing we noticed that the steering appeared to be somewhat difficult to use. So once we returned home we noticed that it hadn't been put together correctly, and watched a video on the website for a step by step video. After speaking to some friends who also have the same trike it appears this is a common matter and is easily fixed.

Amelia previously had a trike for her 1st birthday which it has had great use out of over the past year so I was looking forward to testing out the Smartrike as I have heard such great things about them. When we received the Smart Trike Amelia was around18 months which was perfect for the first stage as she was still pretty small for her age. So it was great to use in the 10m+ stage with the seat padding inserted for a comfier ride.

Now that she is 22 months we have been using it in the 18m+ stage without the seat padding and has been sitting in it very well. We do still occasionally use it in with the padding as Amelia is still pretty small for her age and still fits in it. I am looking forward to testing it out in the next stage which we will share with you once she is ready for the side bars to be taken off.

Features

Dream Touch Steering

The touch steering is a dream to use, you barely have to even move your hands and it will steer. Both my parents and Andy were also impressed how easy it is to push along as how effortless the steering is. The handle is also adjustable which is great as Andy is much taller than me so is nice that we can switch it about easily to suit each others preference. Another added touch is the printed parent bag which is attached to the handle. It's great for keeping little snacks or your phone and keys instead of taking a changing bag out with you.

Wheels & Pedals

The wheels on the Smart Trike are extremely sturdy and durable. We have tested the trike on various surfaces which I will discuss more about below. The front wheel is built in suspension along with shock absorbing rubber wheels making it a smoother ride.

Whilst using the first stage mode your child won't need to use the pedals so these can be folded up and a foot plate is brought down from underneath the frame of the trike. When we first used the trike Amelia had no problem keeping her feet on here however now she has grown she tends to alternate between resting her feet on the pedals and the foot rest.

Cup holder & Phone

A feature of the Smart trike which I really do like is the cup holder for your baby or toddlers bottle and also the toy phone which is a lovely addition for your youngster to play with whist riding about although Amelia doesn't really show any interest in it anymore however I'm sure it is great for younger babies..The juice bottle we had today is slightly bigger than your average size so didn't slot in easily like others do, however usually Amelia will take the cup out herself when ever she needs a drink which is good and means I don't have to keep stopping and passing her the sippy cup.

Other features

The storage tray at the back of the trike is handy for carrying snacks, toys and extra bits and bobs and is of a decent size. As you can see the parent foot brake is on the left hand side and works very well. I found that it didn't roll back even when on a hill. I really do like this feature as other trike's I've come across don't have this safety feature.

The Smart Trike also comes with a sun canopy which is great for those days where you need to keep the sun off your little ones head. Its pretty big so will keep the sun out of their eyes too. Perfect for summer and warmer days. When I took these photo's it was pretty windy so we kept it upright and it doesn't get in the way of steering.

We have tested the trike on a number of various terrain including tarmac, gravel, wooden walkway, sand grass and in the woods and have found it to be easy to manoeuvre on all types of surface. Personally it was easier on the grass and tarmac however we didn't have a problem on the others.

Overall we are extremely happy with the Smart Trike and I can't wait for Amelia to use it in all of the remaining stages as soon as the weather perks up a bit. She is very comfortable sitting in the trike and it's made popping out the shops or the park much more enjoyable and means she doesn't get bored sitting in the pushchair. The Smart Trike retails at around £99 which in my opinion is reasonable for what you are getting and seeing as it lasts until they are around 36 months old. I would definitely recommend purchasing one if you are looking at getting a trike for your little one and especially for a birthday present. You can purchase the Smart Trike from Argos, Amazon, ELC, Smyths, Mothercare and Tesco and it also comes in a range of different colours meaning there's something for everyone!

What do you think of the Smart Trike? Does your child have one? Keep an eye out over the next few months whilst we take on the challenge of a "I'm a little smarTriker" and also for an updated review!
* We were sent the Smart Trike for the purpose of this review, all opinions are 100% honest and our own.

  5. I LOVE how the peddles flick down, I had one for my eldest but there was no way to lock the peddles so she ended up losing the skin on her toes from the going round and hitting her toes :(
So after that experience I was put off buying another with my second x

  43. Brilliant idea for a fun day out. I passed one of these on our country lanes though and I was worried that the child in it was so low to the ground and seemed very vulnerable compared to a buggy. I don't think I'd use one where there were cars and no pavement.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I love that it comes with a toy phone!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I'll definitely buy one of these for Dex when he is older, seem like such good value for money and Amelia looks like she is having a great time! xx

We had the basic smarttrike for our son, however, he didn't really like using it. Not sure if it's because the only harness was a waist strap and he didn't feel safe, or if he just didn't like the thing as a whole :'/ Would look into investing into one of these next time though x
