Amelia: 23 Months

Amelia turned 23 months on Saturday and this is the last month before she turns two I can not believe it! Next month I will have a two year old, how did that even happen? It honestly still feels like only yesterday she was a tiny squishy newborn. Here's a bit on what she's been up to and her development.

This month has been a real test, Amelia has been having tantrums like theres no tomorrow, I honestly didn't think they could have got any worse than last months but they are 10 times worse! She definitely has a mind of her own thats for sure and really knows how to push my buttons. She will answer us if we ask her a question with yes, no or why and is getting better at letting us know what she wants or doesn't want.

She HATES the word no, even though I try my hardest not to say the word, I can't help it sometimes. She then throws a paddy  because I said no and goes off into a huff in her little corner it's so funny when she's in a mood and not crying. The worst is when she screams the house down, I'm pretty sure next door think she's being murdered!

Amelia is getting much better at recognising animals, she's known dog and cat since around 1 year but now knows a lot more, I think its partially down to an app I downloaded on my iPhone which has all the animal sounds and images. She's also getting better at counting and recognising colours, I'll be honest we hadn't really done much in the past with teaching her the numbers and animals as we had tried and she would get easily distracted and wander off so we gave up. She is also saying many more words this month and also says "achoooo" when she or anyone else sneezes it's so cute. She also speaks in her own little language all day long which is really funny. She can also put words together and says sentences with 3 or 4 and sometimes 5 words in them for example "Where are you going now" Where's the ball" "Can I have juice".

She's also been sporting a lovely black eye the past couple of weeks as a result of being hyperactive and jumping into the TV stand. She's been throwing herself about a lot lately literally jumping into things, off the coffee table she's such a dare devil. She loves walking, she would walk for miles if we let her. She's walked a couple of miles at a time without rests and will run and take in everything as we pass by.

I'm trying to get Amelia to eat better, she is beginning to try new foods but is still super fussy. Literally if I give her anything new she will point blank refuse and say no! Ive decided to start making her little lunches as she tends to eat snacky foods for lunch anyways and then introduce new foods each day. Theres only so many more days she can eat chicken nuggets and potato waffles before she becomes fat!

We are still breastfeeding! 23 months! I never thought we would even get to a month let alone this far! I  really do hope she will self wean soon as she's not really getting much from it other than comfort anymore. I am glad we have got this far, and guess we will make it to the two year mark but would like to stop after that. I will be starting potty training soon, as Amelia has been showing signs and also takes her nappy off and lets us know when she has been to the toilet. We have had her potty for months now and it's been lying around the house so she can get used to it so I shall keep you updated on that.

I can't believe the next post on Amelia will be her two year update!

  1. She's more gorgeous than ever, Kerry! And what a natural in front of the camera, my 2 year old puts on the most ridiculous Wallace and Gromit smile whenever she sees a camera. She's also screaming the house down at the moment, I've also been worrying about what the neighbours must think! You're not alone! Katie x

  7. Well done for BF to nearly 2! I managed 16months with my twins after son #2 going on nursing strike at 8 months and was thrilled to get so far, I have to say it became a bit intrusive after about 14 months and I was firm about it being bedtime only. One day I just decided things needed to come to a conclusion and made the decision to stop. Just like that. I was surprised how easily they accepted it too!

It sounds like she's a climber, my 3 YO was - used to try and launch herself off the table. We take her to gymnastics now LOL! Well done being a finalist in the MAD's, look forward to meeting you x

  25. What a cutie. Weaning off the breast at this age is tough as its more of a habit than anything else. It is best to go cold turkey and I promise it takes only 3 days before they stop asking......its tough at first though xx

    1. It really is! I wish i had done it sooner or at least cut down to just morning and bedtime. I will try my best but if i refuse her she screams and the only way to calm her down is by comforting her. Did yours accept it when you refused? x
