Children’s bedrooms are their very own little kingdom, the place they can retreat to when the big wide world gets too much. Children’s room should look happy, with cheerful colours and bright toys. Natural light is important too. A children’s bedroom should be decorated in a way that is pleasing to the child so they enjoy spending time there. It should also encourage play and creativity.
Here are 5 ways to create a unique design for your child’s bedroom that they will love.
Make the Floor One of a Kind
A great idea for creating a unique child’s bedroom is to start out by creating a one of a kind floor. Kids love things they are quirky and different and allow their imaginations to run wild. If the floor is tiled make a mosaic design or add in some feature tiles, maybe featuring fish or flowers. Get your child to help choose. Consider using carpet or vinyl tiles to make a giant hopscotch floor. Or buy a really special rug that features a board game or a racing track on it. Start from the ground up. Make the floor fun.
A Fantasy Bed
You can buy lots of amazing themed beds; racing cars, aeroplanes, princesses and even cartoon characters. Super A-Mart has plenty of kid’s beds to choose from. Or, if you are little bit handy, you can make a bed in a design your kids will love. Kids like to use their imagination so you can turn a bed into almost anything. Build a bed with ultra-high legs and it can become a fort or a deserted island or even a tree house. Match the décor to the theme of the bed and turn your child’s bedroom into a make believe paradise.
Be Adventurous with Walls
Paint the walls in bright bold colours; maybe use your child’s favourite colour. Get creative and adventurous with the walls. You can buy amazing wall stickers that are easily removed. These come in all sorts of designs – animals, dinosaurs, sea creatures and much, much more. Another great idea is to paint one wall with blackboard paint for your child to draw and write on. Buy big stick chalks in lots of colours and they will be amused for hours.
Make a Project Corner
Kids love to make things. It’s a great idea to create a special corner in their bedroom for their latest project. If the child has a special interest (read obsession) you can help them theme their corner. If they love dinosaurs you might help them turn their corner into a palaeontologist’s workshop with lots of books on dinosaurs as well as dinosaur toys and some model skeletons.
The ceiling can also be decorated to be a totally unique space. Wall stickers can be applied to ceilings too or you might like to turn the ceiling into a night sky with glow in the dark stars. Kids will love to lie in bed and stare at their unique ceiling.
