Sharm el Sheikh is a big, bubbly resort on the southern tip of Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, based on the sparkling shores of the Red Sea. A holiday in Sharm El Sheikh promises plenty of beach-side fun, thanks to its 35km stretch of coastline which serves up long ribbons of golden sands, quiet bays, shallow lagoons and lovely secluded coves.
The temperatures regularly reaches over and above the 30 mark from April right through to October, so if you want to book a family holiday to Sharm el Sheikh, your best bet is to travel out of season. Come for a Christmas break in December when the climate regularly peaks in the late teens and early twenties, or travel in March for a beautiful fresh spring break, which will still offer plenty of warm sunny days.
As for things to do, Sharm is awash with great family-friendly activities. There's a splash park - Aqua Park City - at Ras Umm Sid, and believe it or not you'll find an ice skating rink over at Soho Square in the beautiful Shark's Bay area. Here you'll also find great evening activities like bowling, while the soaring Sinai Mountain offers plenty of action-packed excursions like camel rides and safaris for the more active types.
Much of the activity in Sharm focuses on the water, and if you've never before taken your kids snorkelling, this is the perfect place to do it. Sharm is famous for its scuba-diving sites and has become something of a mecca for underwater discovery. If you or your kids aren't quite ready for a PADI course, pick up some face masks and snorkels from the local shops and show them a whole new world just beneath the waves.
Sharm el Sheikh is a superb holiday destination for holidaymakers from all walks of life, and families in particular will enjoy a fantastic and unforgettable escape.
