With 80% of people experiencing some form of back pain in their lifetime many women also experience back pain during and after pregnancy. It is very common and usually occurs somewhere towards the end of their pregnancy. As your belly gets bigger throughout your pregnancy your lower back curved more than usual to accommodate the extra weight. However, there is plenty that you can do to ease the discomfort and prevent it from becoming a long term problem.
The following may help relive the pain:
Massage: Either by a trained massage therapist or your partner, get them to gently massage your lower back and the muscles that run down both sides of your spine. This will help soothe tired, aching muscles.
A good chair: If you are required to sit down in an office a good chair like the Back App which has been proven to reduce back pain may be a great investment. Not only does it help with your posture, it helps to reduce the effort of sitting upright and increases the amount of movement used in sitting. Many office workers are already at rish for weight problems, and are already too inactive. After giving birth and once back in the office don't let your bad habits return. The Back App assists your posture in your back as if you standing. This is not only great for during pregnancy to keep you more upright but is also good for general office workers.
Good posture: Try not to slump when you are sitting down and arch your back as much as possible to try and be comfortable. If you can perhaps sit on a cushion.
Heat and water: A warm bath can ease back pain just like it does in labour. Also try using the shower head to run down your back. A hot water bottle is also another way to relief pain and you can also buy heat pads which stick to your back and these can be hidden under your clothes.
Maternity pillows: Try sleeping on your side with a maternity pillow or wedge-shaped pillow under your tummy. Experiment with different types of cushions and pillows until you find what's best for you.
Support belt: Purchasing one of these will help take the weight of your baby off your tummy muscles and back during pregnancy.
