Amelia: 20 months

As we were away on holiday last month I never actually got round to doing Amelia's 19 month update so there should be much more to update you on this time. I can't quiet believe that she is 20 months old already - in just 4 short months she will be turning two! When on earth did that happen? She has changed so much again these past couple of months, her personality has developed and she is saying more words now.

A couple of weeks ago she turned round and said "Where are you going now?" to Andy as he was going outside and she just said it out of the blue then repeated it about 20 times! She doesn't say any sentences so I have no idea where she learnt to say it. She usually just says single worded words like for example, dog, baby, bye, hi, etc. I can't wait until she does say real sentences because she does like to babble and talk a lot of rubbish for the most part of the day however of course I don't understand a word she says.

Eating wise we seem to have taken a backwards step or 10! A couple of months ago she started eating  quiet well, she would eat the meal pots and homemade food if I blended it down. She's always been fussy and won't eat new stuff we give her. Ever since coming back from holiday she has gone off these meal pots and just won't eat them! I've tried giving her finger foods but she just throws them on the floor unless it's toast and cucumber as that seems to be her diet at the moment. She's also gone off young hurt. I have no idea why and she was enjoying feeding herself and I thought yippee she's finally eating! So I feel like we are back at stage one again with a fussy toddler who won't eat anything!!! I do worry when she doesn't eat but I know that if she was really hungry she would eat it so she must not be as hungry as usual. If anyone has any advice do let me know!

She is still being nursed but this had decreased a lot - it's mainly for comfort to be honest and I'm hoping she weans herself off that soon! As to be honest I don't think she gets anything from it anymore. She will feed when she's tired, upset/hurt herself or when she wakes up in the middle of the night.

Sleeping wise she is sleeping much much better and this is one thing I am so so glad about! Especially after nearly 18 months of sleepless nights and a very sore back. I can gladly say she goes down to sleep at around 8-8.30pm in her own bed with no fuss now and will wake up at 12-2am for a feed then goes back to sleep till 8am! So she is getting around 12 hours sleep still even though she wakes in the night, but I don't mind her waking as I'm still a zombie and just bring her back into bed with us and she goes to sleep again.

She is still in size 12-18 month clothing although the tops are starting to look a little tight. Bottom wise even some 12-18 month leggings and jeans fall down on her but they are the right length and if she wore a 9-12 month they would be far too short for her. So for now she is in 12-18. I haven't had her weighed for as long as I can remember but she's never been big for her age. Her hair is getting super long now and it's finally long enough to put back into a little pony tail even though all her curls fall out. I think being on holiday and in the water and sun everyday helped encourage it to grow...about time too! I can't wait till she'll let me play with her hair.

One thing she is getting worse with at the moment is her tantrums and mood swings! I swear we have hit the terrible twos already! For a few months now she will throw herself back on the ground when we tell her no or if she gets annoyed or is doing something she shouldn't be doing. She's also started screaming too and I know its just for attention so I try to ignore her when she starts doing this I'm just glad she hasn't done it out in public - yet!

We are looking forward to Christmas now as she was only 8 months old last year so it's going to be so much fun!! Not just for Amelia but us too ha! I think this time last year I had already started planning Amelia's first birthday party! I have no idea what to do for her 2nd birthday but it will only be a small family gathering again so I might not go as extreme this year ha ha! But we'll see! You know me and my decor planning!

  1. my son, caleb is 20 months also, and sooo know what you mean about hitting the terrible twos early! we've had a few public meltdowns which have been, eh fun ;)
we also had a tricky period with food, which took us by surprise as caleb was baby-led and had always been pretty good with food. we tried not to give it much attention though, if he was that hungry he would eat. i think it was a combination of excercising his power and teething. he has since, without any prompting from us gone back to eating normally. he started eating his favourites again, and we slowly introduced other foods which he now eats willingly. i wouldn't worry too much about it. easier said than done at times i know!
oh and by the way, LOVE the pictures. it looks beautiful!
    have a lovely christmas :)
