Last weekend I attended my very first blogging event Britmums Live along with 500 other bloggers at The Brewery in London. I had no idea what to expect, I was nervous yet excited, but anxious about being in a room full of many bloggers who I had never met before. If you know me in the real world, you will know that I am a very shy person.
I finally got to meet Lotte and Nicola, close friends who I have been talking to pretty much everyday with out fail for the past year! I feel like I have known them for years but finally getting the chance to meet them both was amazing and we all got on straight away. It's amazing as we all met online, yet we have become so close and know so much about each other and our little ones. If only we all lived closer!
The afternoon started with registration to collect our badges and then we all headed to the hub to see what was going on in there. There was such a great atmosphere and it was good to know that everyone shared the same interest - blogging! Everyone attends these event for different reasons, whether that be to increase their blogging knowledge, meet some bloggers or chat with brands but everyone is there because they blog. We then went to our first talk of the event which was the Britmums welcome meeting and were welcomed by the lovely ladies who have made Britmums possible. Next up was keynotes from Kirstie Allsopp who is so down to earth and gave a fantastic insight into her working life.
We spent a lot of the day wandering around the Hub and the brand rooms chatting to the representatives for the different stands. It was lovely to chat with different brands such as MAM, Acer, Soda Stream, Coca Cola and Vitamix and find out more about each company.
Later in the afternoon we attended the 'Getting' Paid discussion which was rather interesting to find out what others thought about the situation. If you aren't already aware, I do get paid for some of my advertisements and posts on this blog but I do always try and make them relevant and fit in well with my blog.
On the Saturday the beautiful Katie Piper gave a speech and shared her story which was truly inspirational! She is such a brave woman. I had the opportunity to meet Katie Piper and bought her newest book Things Get Better which she also signed. After that we wandered around the hub again speaking to any brands we hadn't been to the previous day and attended a few more discussions on 'Legal and Accounting' and 'Writing reviews and sponsored posts' even though I already knew most of the topics discussed it was good to see what other's thought on the subject. It's all about building relationships with the PR, which I much prefer to do. I've learnt to do what I feel is best and what will benefit me and my blog. I have decided to have a few changes to the blog which will be coming soon.
We then attended the bloggers keynote which was the last event of the day. The day had come to an end which meant only one thing, to grab a goodie bag and say our goodbyes. It was so sad that Britmums Live had ended, its such an awesome community one which I feel welcomed into with so much warmth and support. That's why I love being part of the parent blogging community!
Who doesn't love some freebies! Of course we already ate all the biscuits!
It was great to bump into other bloggers over the weekend such as Sarah, Katie, Bex, Laura, and Charlotte just to name a few, who's blogs I read regularly. I had such a great experience and have no idea why I had any doubts in the first place. It has definitely made me less nervous about attending events and I have met so many lovely people and on another note I won an iPad Mini which I still can't believe as I never win anything!
If you have any doubts about going to a blogging event because you are too nervous or think you won't know anyone. Do it!!! You will have so much fun and meet other people who understand what you do! If you haven't already, book your tickets for next years Britmums Live! 2014 early bird tickets are already on sale. I've got mine... I hope to see you there!
Also I'd like to say a HUGE thank you to The Gro Company for sponsoring me to attend and meet some fantastic bloggers and brands.
