Day In The Life: Our Daily 'Routine' at 12 Months

This is a question I get asked a lot, has your routine changed now that Amelia is older. How does it differ from when she was 6 months old. To be honest we've never really had a routine as such, we've just gone with the flow. It's worked with us and I can't really complain. The major change is her bed time, she now goes to sleep around 10 or 11pm and wakes up at 8 or 9am instead of 10am. Here is what a typical day looks like at home if we don't go out anywhere. Her meal times and nap times vary every day.

8.30am | Wake up. I used to wake up around 9.30 or 10 which was pretty late I know. Now we are getting up earlier we have more of a routine as such and the day feels longer. I nurse Amelia first thing in the morning before going downstairs.

10am | Have breakfast. I'm not really a breakfast person, sometimes I'll have marmite on toast or a can of red bull. What I give Amelia varies day to day. Usually consists of toast, frubes, pieces of fruit and more recently porridge.

10.30am | Get dressed and ready for the day.

11am | Play time. We usually play in the living room, we read books, play on the spin and bounce zebra and then she usually just entertains herself and runs around like a lunatic. I usually take this time to check my emails, blog stats/comments, Facebook etc.

12pm | Lunch time. I'm trying to eat a bit healthier so I had a jacket potato today.

12.30 pm | Blogging and getting some lunch while Amelia plays with her toys. I take this time while she plays to get a blog post done and catch up with some other blogs I love reading.

1pm | Snack time and TV time. I let her watch some cartoons for half an hour or so. During the day I usually give her some cucumber, bread sticks, quavers, tomatoes and cheese. Now that she is eating more she is loving her food!

2pm | Nap time. I fed her in the cot and climbed out once she fell asleep. She usually naps for 2-3 hours in the day now that she is sleeping in her cot. Which is good as she's only having one nap during the day and doesn't go to sleep until around 10pm so she needs the long nap. Up until recently she would nap in her jumperoo for an hour here and there throughout the day which I know wasn't good for her.

2.30pm | I always get peckish due to breastfeeding so it's always good to snack throughout the day. I had some breadsticks with humous followed by a helter skelter ice lolly. I blog while Amelia sleeps and catch up with some emails. I usually end up getting distracted and find myself browsing other blogs or on Twitter.

3.00pm | Amelia is still napping so I take this opportunity to sit down and get some bills organised and blog stuff done.

3.30pm | I took some time to lie down and catch up on some Youtube videos.

4pm | Amelia wakes up and we decide to on out on the trike. If she has her nap earlier then we might go to the park instead. But we try and get her out on the trike every day if the weather is nice. When we get back Amelia plays and watches some more TV.

7pm | Dinner tonight it's chicken casserole and sweet potato and noodles.

7.30pm | Bath time and wind down time

10.30pm | Bed time. This is earlier than she has been going recently which is great! I nurse her to sleep again in the cot and climb out once she is fully asleep. I don't go to sleep until earliest 1am so I usually catch up with some more blogging. If Amelia isn't asleep by 10.30pm then she will usually be in her jumperoo to wear her out and then we will go up around 12am.

  1. Thank you, this is so helpful to know! Do you find going out to meet people in the day messes her routine or do you simply try to do it to fit into her routine? xx

  3. I think its easier to not have a routine so much some of my friends do and it just seems exhausting trying to stick to it!! We have that headband my husband is always asking how to wear it to the side etc (not him for the baby, well i dont know he may do havent caught him out yet!)

  5. Lovely read. My latest addition is 3mths now and everytime my partner and I have a routine in place something hits and messes it up! For example, chickenpox last month then as recently as a week ago she went through a colossal growth spurt! We're only now getting back to normality, lol. x
