So today was the first time I took Amelia along to a baby and mother group. Yes I know I left it a bit late going at 10 weeks but lets just say better late than never hey? I had been told by the midwifes and health visitors on many occasions to pop on down but never really got round to doing so. Its held every Thursday 1-2.30pm in the town I live at so I have no excuse really. I actually really enjoyed it and regret not going sooner. I met some lovely ladies and babies, and it was also good for Amelia to be around babies of her age. The eldest was 17 weeks and the youngest just 4. Some were a few days older and younger than Amelia. So it was a good mix of different ages. This week there were only seven of us but apparently more do go.
To begin with Amelia was a little unsettled so I had her sat on my lap whilst all the other mummy's had their babies on the big play mat. She usually doesn't like being on her back and kicks up a huge fuss but eventually I gave in and put Amelia down too. She didn't fuss once! Just lay there looking about and being entertained by the other babies. This week one of the organisers was doing foot and hand prints. I already have Amelia's casted by I thought we'd give it a go. I then fed her as she was getting a little fussy, and she fell asleep on me so I put her down on the mat and she slept! I was amazed! Usually if I put her down anywhere other than her swing or in bed with us she will kick up a fuss and wake up. But she slept for a good half hour, she was zonked out as you can see in the picture above.
To sum it up, we both had a good time, and I will defiantly be going every week, just wish I had plucked up the courage to go along before now. To other mummies who haven't yet been, GO! Trust me, you will be glad you did. It's only for a couple of hours but you feel so much better coming out of there knowing you've been and had a good old natter with ladies in the same boat as you. I would have stayed there all day if I could. I was told that there is another baby group closer to where I live about a 10 minute walk every Tuesday 10.30-12pm so I will be going along to that too to meet some other mummies and babies. This way Amelia can meet some new friends and hopefully grow up with them. I can't wait for the next one.
